Laika Community Moderator Posted January 14, 2021 Posted January 14, 2021 Last BA preview the Jays were expected to sign Beltre and one other player in the top ~50. It looks like about half of their money will end up with Beltre, but it could be even more. 10 Manuel Beltre Manuel Beltre Dominican RepublicSS Notes: Born: June 9, 2004. B-T: R-R. Ht.: 5-11. Wt.: 165. Report: One of the best hitters in the class, Beltre is a baseball rat who has spent years documenting his path to professional baseball on his social media accounts, sharing his daily training and highlights on his Instagram account of more than 60,000 followers. Beltre has a short, simple swing, performing well in games with a high contact rate, good feel for the strike zone and gap power. Beltre isn't as tooled-up as some of the other top prospects in the class, but he has a ton of game experience relative to his peers and it's evident in his all-around instincts and fundamentally sound play. Beltre, who trains trains with Jaime Ramos, is expected to sign with the Blue Jays. (they don't mention a bonus but the #8 player is expected to sign for $2.5M and a few players below Beltre are expected to sign for $2M) 39 Last: 38 Martín Giménez Headshot Martin Gimenez VenezuelaSS Notes: Born: Feb. 15, 2004. B-T: R-R. Ht.: 6-3. Wt.: 160. Report: Gimenez and Wilman Diaz, one of the top shortstops in this class, train together with Alexi Quiroz. Gimenez has a long, lanky build with plenty of room to pack on weight. He has a chance to develop into a power bat once he fills out, with some scouts praising his swing and approach, though others said he's still learning to recognize breaking pitches. Gimenez has a strong arm for the left side of the infield and it should grade up as he fills out, with a good chance he ends up at third base or possibly an outfield corner as he gets bigger. The Blue Jays are expected to sign Gimenez.
Laika Community Moderator Posted January 14, 2021 Posted January 14, 2021 It's funny how these guys don't even try to hide the fact that they have deals in place anymore. Beltre wears Jays gear all the time: His little brother Emmanuel Beltre is already in Jays gear too
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted January 14, 2021 Posted January 14, 2021 Crazy how long we've known about the Jays landing Beltre, yet it's still not official
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted January 14, 2021 Author Posted January 14, 2021 Seems like he'd immediately be in our top 20 prospects?
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted January 14, 2021 Posted January 14, 2021 Seems like he'd immediately be in our top 20 prospects? Orelvis Martinez, a more touted prospect, started out at 13 in a similarly rated farm system. I'd guess that 15-20 is reasonable for Beltre.

Norman Verified Member Posted January 14, 2021 Posted January 14, 2021 Following a deep 2019 signing class, the Blue Jays are set to add another one of the top hitters in Latin America, Dominican shortstop Manuel Beltre. He has a simple, repeatable swing and has consistently performed at a high level in games, often traveling to the United States for tournaments. He's a student of the game with instincts and baseball savvy well beyond his years. The Blue Jays are also expected to sign Martin Gimenez, a long-limbed, lanky shortstop (6-foot-3, 160 pounds) who has a chance to hit for power as he fills out his frame. A position change is probably in his future, with a strong arm that could fit at third base. There will be another shortstop named Luis Garcia to keep track of when the Blue Jays add Venezuelan shortstop Luis Garcia once the signing period opens. Garcia has plus speed and arm strength, with the tools to be a good defender at shortstop. He's a switch-hitter with a fairly simple swing, though without much power from his 5-foot-10 frame. Venezuelan center fielder Yhoangel Aponte is another player linked to Toronto. He showed excellent defensive instincts at a Nations Baseball Showcase in Aruba and he drives the ball for hard contact from the right side of the plate. Dominican catcher Jonathan Peguero is also expected to sign with the Blue Jays, with a bonus likely to be a tick south of $500,000.
