The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2021 Posted July 8, 2021 Has a star player who didn't see prison time ever lost an MLB career because of something like this? If Bauer ends up going to jail I don't think he'll play again, but based on what's been made public, it's hard to see him going to jail. Matt Bush is still around and he was far from a star player. Sometimes jail can't even stop a player's career.

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2021 Posted July 8, 2021 Chapman and Domingo German didn’t lose their careers. Jose Reyes kinda did but he already sucked by then. Bauer aint going anywhere.

We should be all over Osuna. Bring him home. Just make sure it's all an incentive laden deal since it's like 80% chance he needs TJS.

Depends on what the police investigation uncovers. If it uncovers a history of violence against women, the allegations are corroborated.
King Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2021 Posted July 8, 2021 Bauer has already made 87 mil in his career + any earnings on endorsement deals. Hopefully he invested wisely. I'd be shocked if he pitched for a major league team again. Likely destination is the Mexican AAA league if he wants to keep pitching. Doubt any team in Japan or Korea would want his baggage.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2021 Posted July 8, 2021 NJH can you please explain to me again why Bauer isn’t actually the huge douche I have long thought him to be?
Laika Community Moderator Posted July 8, 2021 Posted July 8, 2021 NJH can you please explain to me again why Bauer isn’t actually the huge douche I have long thought him to be? No, I now think he is a douchebag. That's confirmed.

Ray Verified Member Posted July 8, 2021 Posted July 8, 2021 This is the last 7 days he can be put in administrative leave according to the CBA, so expect a decision on whether or not a suspension is levied by MLB next week. By the way, the victim released some photos of herself too after the attack: https://www.the-sun.com/news/3229685/trevor-bauer-rape-accuser-dodgers-pitcher-claims-choked/

Because there's no way he's playing before a decision is made on whether or not he's facing criminal action. MLB might not have enough information yet to determine length of the suspension.

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2021 Posted July 8, 2021 “Rough play” is honestly small dick energy.
BTS Community Moderator Posted July 8, 2021 Posted July 8, 2021 Nah it would change things. Right now he has just been accused by a private individual. For all we know the accusations are frivolous and without merit. But if the State actually thinks there is a reasonable chance that he could be convicted of a crime based on the evidence then I think that alone changes things. And if he ends up being convicted of a crime that of course changes everything. The spectrum would read something like: - Accused by private individual but nothing happens = the lightest shade of grey; he probably should face no repercussions professionally - Accused by private individual and faces a civil action but successfully defends the lawsuit OR nothing is proven = light grey - Accused by private individual and faces a civil action and loses in some respect = darker grey - Accused and the State charges him criminally but he is not convicted = dark, dark grey because the state saw evidence they could reasonably convict him of a crime - Accused and the State charges him criminally and he is convicted = almost black; his MLB career should be over It will always be a shade of grey but there can be very different shades of grey. The three middle roads would be followed by something like "MLB and MLB teams should feel free to conduct their own analysis of the facts to determine whether or not they want to offer him employment" What I was getting at and didn't word well is that I think we're going to be left with an unsatisfying outcome. I'm no lawyer, but it seems like an odd situation in that we know that he did what she's accusing him of, and now its about trying to determine things like intent and consent in the aftermath. I think the most likely outcome here is that the allegations (that he hit her and choked her unconscious) are true, but that he's not found legally guilty of a crime. Different people will have different opinions on what this says about him.

Their hands are kind of tied at this point. I doubt 7 days is enough to get through MLB’s internal investigation, and the police will definitely not be through theirs because bureaucracy. He might actually end up coming back and pitching, which will be interesting to see how everyone reacts.

Ray Verified Member Posted July 8, 2021 Posted July 8, 2021 Update: I’m wrong. Seems like the league and MLBPA can keep on extending the leave, but it’ll have to get approved by both parties. Which I’m sure they will as they wait for the investigation to finish. I don’t know. Seems like we might not be seeing Bauer pitch for a while this season anyways.
BTS Community Moderator Posted July 8, 2021 Posted July 8, 2021 ^ owns Acuna & Soto in a dynasty league and still finds ways to bitch about his owned players Soto has been disappointing this year, and I've shown a lot of restraint in not complaining about him TBH.

They have to agree with the union. As long as he’s getting paid they’ll probably agree because you can imagine the players don’t want to deal with the bs either
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2021 Posted July 8, 2021 no matter what way this shakes out (who is telling more of the truth), I don't understand how Bauer thought slapping a chick around to the point of damage was a good idea, consensual or not. Super bad look even if it was 100% asked for. Huge risk that she could frame your ass even if it was 100% asked for. I somehow had it in my brain he was a pretty smart guy. This would have been a very dumb move in even the most charitable circumstance.

Legitimately surprised that he put himself into this position. As you say, even under the most charitable reading of this situation he's a short-sighted idiot.

It should be noted that he’s been a millionaire celeb for many years now so it’s almost unlikely this is his first rodeo living out his fantasies. So now he better hope there’s no other jaded chicks that want to see him burn or get paid
glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2021 Posted July 8, 2021 Imagine getting the highest AAV of any player in your sport, and then within 3 months risking it all for a random on social. Or maybe someone told him that nothing will ever be as embarrassing as the rap song he recorded years ago, and Trevor took that as a challenge.
BTS Community Moderator Posted July 8, 2021 Posted July 8, 2021 the rap song he recorded years ago What's this now?

So it’s basically just judging a perversion. Like Mark Albert type stuff dressing up in women’s underwear to get rough, a guy wearing a diaper and doing whatever that entails..heck even some people view homosexuality as a sick perversion
