jayscurveone Verified Member Posted January 2, 2021 Posted January 2, 2021 So Delgado was 22 in the strike-shortened season of 1994. But he had hit .303/.430/.524 in 1993 in AA. And in 1994 he hit .319/.404/.541 in AAA. So rather than use him full time in the MLB in 1995 at 23, they wasted a year keeping him in AAA where he hit .318/.403/.610. They should have traded Olerud or Molitor to make room for Delgado. It may sound crazy but maybe they could have played Delgado at catcher in 1995. Much better numbers offensively than Sandy Martinez.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted January 2, 2021 Posted January 2, 2021 They wanted him to continue working on his defence
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted January 2, 2021 Posted January 2, 2021 Did you create an account to ask questions no one cares about? You can create one big thread and put hundreds of players that fall into the service time manipulation criteria.
The Iceman Verified Member Posted January 3, 2021 Posted January 3, 2021 Was a horrible catcher as a prospect. Can't wait for tomorrow...why did Jays hold back Cecil Fielder he of 466 RBI in 518 minor league games
Virgil_Hiltz Verified Member Posted January 3, 2021 Posted January 3, 2021 Maybe the question should be "Why didn't this forum hold back jayscurveone in 2021" ?
jayscurveone Verified Member Posted January 3, 2021 Author Posted January 3, 2021 Thank you for the answer L54. I created the account to ask the question about Vernon Wells, then I thought the same thing about Delgado but for him it was a year worse.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted January 3, 2021 Posted January 3, 2021 Well... we held back Vladdy and Pearson a few extra months. Do you want to ask about that now or should we wait until 2040? Lol
jayscurveone Verified Member Posted January 4, 2021 Author Posted January 4, 2021 Speaking of Vladdy, why did Guerrero Senior have what was supposed to be his first full season in the MLB at 22? Of course he missed MLB time that year due to injury. The Expos would have known they wouldn't be able to sign him to a huge money free agent signing several years down the road after being a top MLB player. Why not get an extra year out of him? I am guessing he needed to work on his defense in the minor leagues more.
