  1. 1995 was also a shortened season.
  2. It's already turned off. I still got a new private message to show that you had quoted me.
  3. How do I stop getting quote notifications in my inbox every time someone quotes me?
  4. Roy Halladay was often either pitching hurt or on the disabled list in 2004. He made 21 starts in 2004 vs 36 in 2003. 4.20 era in 2004 vs 3.25 in 2003. Delgado missed one game in 2003 (1.019 ops) vs missing 34 in 2004 (.907 ops). Vernon Wells missed time and posted a .809 ops in 2004 vs .909 ops in 2003. Add that Frank Catalanotto and Reed Johnson didn't do as well in 2004 as they did in 2003.
  5. The strike was a huge part of that since they played way fewer games and had less chance to win as many games. Other than that I don't know.
  6. Speaking of Vladdy, why did Guerrero Senior have what was supposed to be his first full season in the MLB at 22? Of course he missed MLB time that year due to injury. The Expos would have known they wouldn't be able to sign him to a huge money free agent signing several years down the road after being a top MLB player. Why not get an extra year out of him? I am guessing he needed to work on his defense in the minor leagues more.
  7. Thank you for the answer L54. I created the account to ask the question about Vernon Wells, then I thought the same thing about Delgado but for him it was a year worse.
  8. That could be that things have changed for how early players get called up. I tried to find an article that would examine trends in age of when MLB players get called up, but couldn't find such an article.
  9. It doesn't count to say "someone told me that". You could be making it up about Vernon Wells saying that to you. Like when people say they are asking for a friend when they are actually asking for themself and they don't want anyone to know it is their question.
  10. So Delgado was 22 in the strike-shortened season of 1994. But he had hit .303/.430/.524 in 1993 in AA. And in 1994 he hit .319/.404/.541 in AAA. So rather than use him full time in the MLB in 1995 at 23, they wasted a year keeping him in AAA where he hit .318/.403/.610. They should have traded Olerud or Molitor to make room for Delgado. It may sound crazy but maybe they could have played Delgado at catcher in 1995. Much better numbers offensively than Sandy Martinez.
  11. Wow you guys don't know anything. JP wasn't GM until 2002. The huge Wells contract was many years later. Surely there have to be some Jays history buffs here who would know why they kept Wells in AAA in 2001.
  12. No I am talking about when he was 22 and 23. Not the contract when he was 30.
  13. He spends 2000 in Syracuse (AAA) at 21 years of age, does not put up very good numbers offensively (.243/.313/.432) with 23 steals and 4 caught stealing. Then at 22 in 2001, he hits .281/.333/.453 at AAA but they keep him down there until he joins the MLB club full time in 2002 at 23. The Jays had Stewart, Mondesi and Jose Cruz as their starting outfielders in 2000 and 2001, with Fullmer as their DH. Everyone knew Wells was the future of the franchise. Why not trade Stewart, Mondesi, Cruz or Fullmer in 2001 to make room for Wells, or rotate Fullmer, Stewart, and Delgado between first base and DH?
