King Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 https://stadiumjourney.com/news/milb-2021 Jays keep Vancouver as their High A affiliate Dunedin becomes the Low A affiliate Lansing becomes Oaklands affiliate Thoughts? Interestingly, this means more baseball in Vancouver, since they'll now be playing from April through September rather than the short season schedule of June through the end of August

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 Dunedin becoming the low A is good. Some of the guys in extended can just stay where they are. I wonder if part of the thinking was make the Dunedin facility more effective for player development. With high A going to Vancouver, more facilities for the extended camp.
King Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2020 Author Posted December 9, 2020 Is it too soon to talk about player assignments for next year? Orelvis Martinez will almost certainly be Dunedins starting shortstop, right? Does Manoah go back to Vancouver? What about Austin Martin?

I see all of Manoah, Kloff, Groshans, Martin, Moreno, Hidalgo at A+. SWR in AA. Hard to say about Pardinho, maybe he starts the comeback in low A.

Yeah, they basically just flipped levels. Makes sense for cutting down travel costs. The Northwest League became High A, the Midwest League is also now High A, the Florida State League is Low A. The Cal League is Low A too. I guess then we'll also have the GCL and DSL teams. Seems like a lot of teams are going to be operating 2 teams out of their GCL/AZL complex this year.

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 That's a lot of talent in Vancouver, holy s***. Yes, but it will be temporary. Given the lost pandemic year, expect lots of player movement by June. Half those guys could be promoted to AA in June.

He turns 23 a month from today. Austin Martin to Vancouver.

True, but he doesn't have many innings in pro ball and is coming off a major injury. I would even say you could start him in Dunedin for a month and advance him from there. But it mostly depends how he looks in spring training. Either way, it will be interesting, and good to have minor league baseball back. Assuming there will be a minor league baseball season, of course.
