saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted October 9, 2020 Posted October 9, 2020 Game 5 should be a beauty. Rays are starting Glasnow who threw 93 pitches in game 2.....now that's a bold move.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted October 9, 2020 Posted October 9, 2020 I'm guessing the Rays will use Glasnow and Snell in a tandem to get through 5-6 innings before going to the pen. That's probably their best chance. The "no days off" gimmick is at least making it tougher to advance the deeper a team goes. Teams can't get by on 2 good starters in this format.

Yeah I like this personally. It brings in the strategies they need to implement throughout the season instead of getting every other day off and using the same 2-3 relievers every night. Moving forward with the permanent expanded playoffs (whatever they will look like), I have to think this schedule setup will remain to some extent (maybe not 5 days in a row, but they won't need 10 days to play 5 games).

I agree with this. However, if they go back to home parks. How would you do that with travel.. Imagine a Mets vs San Diego series etc, and the time zone, travel wear and tear.. I 100% agree in principle though that I want to see teams have to test their whole depth and not just be able to use a few best SPs and RPs etc.

Ex., Snell and Cole will be on 3 days rest tonight in game 5. they only way they could play every day with travel would be getaway days but that's bad for TV ratings and i don't think travel with no off days would ever be union approved. just not happening.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted October 9, 2020 Posted October 9, 2020 Cole on 3 days rest Glasgow on 2 days Damn
Laika Community Moderator Posted October 9, 2020 Posted October 9, 2020 Cole on 3 days rest Glasgow on 2 days Damn Guaranteed Glasnow is just opening. 1 or 2 innings, then Snell.

LDS should be a seven game series. I never understood why they are 5 game series while CS and WS are 7.

That's how it always worked. The only reason they are doing no off days now (in addition to wanting to end the playoffs without interruption ASAP) is because there are no travel days. When the playoffs expand next year (hopefully with normal travel and fans in attendance), then the WC round will likely be 3 consecutive days since the higher seed gets all the home games, but beyond that, it will go back to the original format you highlighted above.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted October 9, 2020 Posted October 9, 2020 Yankees let Glasnow off the hook by making 2 outs on 3-0 pitches. He is having trouble finding the strike zone.
