I'm guessing the Rays will use Glasnow and Snell in a tandem to get through 5-6 innings before going to the pen. That's probably their best chance.

The "no days off" gimmick is at least making it tougher to advance the deeper a team goes. Teams can't get by on 2 good starters in this format.

Yeah I like this personally. It brings in the strategies they need to implement throughout the season instead of getting every other day off and using the same 2-3 relievers every night. Moving forward with the permanent expanded playoffs (whatever they will look like), I have to think this schedule setup will remain to some extent (maybe not 5 days in a row, but they won't need 10 days to play 5 games).

I agree with this. However, if they go back to home parks. How would you do that with travel.. Imagine a Mets vs San Diego series etc, and the time zone, travel wear and tear.. I 100% agree in principle though that I want to see teams have to test their whole depth and not just be able to use a few best SPs and RPs etc.

7 game series - 2 games at one park, 1 day travel, 3 games at the other park, 1 day travel, 2 games at the original park. 7 games in 9 days with 2 days off.

5 game series - 2 games at one park, 1 day travel, 2 games at the other park, 1 day travel, 1 game at the original park. 5 games in 7 days, 2 days off.

Isn't that exactly what is was pre-COVID?

that's what they already did

the off days let most teams get through the entire playoffs relying mostly on three SP, the only exception being maybe game 4 of a 7 game series.

the format this year with no off days forces teams to use their 4th SP more often over the course of the playoffs and it forces teams to either use a 5th SP or bring back their top of the rotation arms on short rest. Ex., Snell and Cole will be on 3 days rest tonight in game 5.

they only way they could play every day with travel would be getaway days but that's bad for TV ratings and i don't think travel with no off days would ever be union approved. just not happening.

Cole on 3 days rest

Glasgow on 2 days

Damn

Guaranteed Glasnow is just opening. 1 or 2 innings, then Snell.

LDS should be a seven game series. I never understood why they are 5 game series while CS and WS are 7.

That's how it always worked. The only reason they are doing no off days now (in addition to wanting to end the playoffs without interruption ASAP) is because there are no travel days.

When the playoffs expand next year (hopefully with normal travel and fans in attendance), then the WC round will likely be 3 consecutive days since the higher seed gets all the home games, but beyond that, it will go back to the original format you highlighted above.

Yankees let Glasnow off the hook by making 2 outs on 3-0 pitches. He is having trouble finding the strike zone.
