I imagine barring a 4 HR performance the plan was always to DFA Vogelbach, attempt to sneak him through waivers and fix him at the alternate training site. I am so glad to have Drury removed from the 40-man roster, my god was that ever overdue.

Have we given up on Vogelbach already?

 

He cost us nothing in terms of prospects, and I can't really see another team putting a claim on him. He and Drury probably clear waivers... Gaviglio is likely gone, but you'll forget he existed in a week.

Rowdy has looked really comfortable digging balls out of the dirt.

 

As long as he's hitting, he's the preferred option at 1st base defensively.

I think the Vogelbach claim was because they had trade talks in which Tellez was included

 

There's good probability that the Red Sox could claim him as Mitch Moreland was traded to the Padres

That doesn't seem like any kind of upgrade from Smoak.

 

It's a no-brainer. Smoak is a sunk cost on a one year deal. Vogelbach is pre-arb. Their projections are probably similar.

I would take a flyer on Smoak if he goes back to his plate discipline approach.

 

He'd be a great guy to throw on the taxi squad if he is willing. You can't have too many solid vets around in the event of a Covid outbreak.
