When I was coaching, there was a small crew from the Canadian Baseball Academy that would visit different team practices and give us a demonstration and explanation on how it betters the defense around the bag. On pick off attempts, you drop the tag on the runner's torso while you obviously gain a step on ground balls in the hole.
