“Political references are not allowed” - does that include avatars?

 

We would police avatars in the same way as in the past. If one cannot see a picture of a politician without it triggering them to a response about that politician I would say that they won't be able to abide by the new rules.

 

Example: a Poster with a picture of a world leader says "Rowdy Tellez should play 3rd base". And a response is "figures a person who supports that politician would have such a stupid opinion" The issue is not the guy with the picture!

 

Common sense people. There will be some lines which are shady, but it isn't that difficult to respect people who you disagree with.

The mods and admin did talk about removing the off topic completely but for many this is the only place where they discuss sports, booze, movies, tv shows, comedians. They will be moderated as usual.

Haven’t been around in awhile. Just focussed on other things. Respect this forum and there are a lot of very smart posters, whether I agree with them or not all the time is irrelevant. I vent my political spleen on the cesspool also known as twitter and the occasional PM exchange with Terminator lol. Who is good guy. I think this is a wise move by the moderators. Focus on sports. Looking forward to MLB this year. Fingers crossed. Have started coaching Little League in Calgary again and thrilled the kids look they will get some form of a modified season in.

I fully applaud this move. I actually lurked on this board for several years before joining because I didn't like the combative tone and constant fighting and bickering. Then when I finally joined years later I ventured into the off topic section of the forum and almost instantly found myself right in the middle of all of the fighting and bickering.

34 new accounts have registered for the board in 2020 - 10 have made posts. Doesn't include spam accounts which get deleted.

 

 

For comparison, between January 1st 2019 and July 1st 2019 there were 93 new registered members, only 9 have made more than 50 posts to this day. I think about 6 of those 9 are fantasy members (ex: Ling, TheBadGuy etc) and the others are people who made new accounts (Dogg).

 

2016 during the same time from saw 800 new registered users!

 

Abysmal decline, no matter what way you put it. It is time to bring the BJMB back to it's glory days.

To be fair, the Jays have been pretty s*** the past few seasons. Everyone was excited in 2015 and 2016. I think a winning team will provide a spike in new users.

To grow the board we need to start having awesome threads again on the main forum. Hopefully not having things derailed so easily (or for so long) will help with that.

The board recently had a well worded complaint about inclusion and feeling comfortable posting. This board was formed by posters on the mlb.com message board and was originally formed as a more saber friendly board with a very strong baseball acumen. So over the years we have had new posters tell us that it is not an inclusive place to post. However, in this case the poster stated that they didn’t feel comfortable posting because they didn’t feel they could keep quiet based on their personal views and they would not have felt comfortable or safe making their views known.

 

For the past few years there were several threads on the off topic board which were formed to keep differing non-baseball related opinions off of the baseball threads. These threads have developed “feuds” which have once again filtered back into the baseball related threads. Many regulars have called the boards things like “unreadable” over the past few years. It is time for a major change.

 

The politics thread, Coronavirus how scared are you?, and In the News threads have been deleted and will not return. Further to that the following new rule will be implemented:

 

Responses to posts are still encouraged. However, responses in which you are referencing the poster are not. If you can’t refute the post without any form of personal comment at a poster, do not respond.

Political references are not allowed. Sports have become very political. There are many posts which are about baseball players and politics. These will be allowed as will responses to these, but mods will be quick to close the thread if it gets out of hand.

 

There are many places for you to argue politics. Take your discussions to one of those avenues.

 

Punishment on this will be at the sole discretion of the moderators. It may be deletion and warning. It could be a one day ban, it could be a lifetime ban. All we ask is that you think about what you are posting. This board will now be treated as a business, if you say something which could negatively affect the business you will be removed.

 

If you feel that someone is breaking the rules, please report the post. Do not respond to that post.

 

This thread will be left open for comments. If you are not comfortable posting it here you can PM myself or BTS.

I'm not quitting the board because I'm pouting. I just genuinely enjoyed coming here and having intelligent debate with intelligent guys. It was a good way to occasionally break up the monotony of the work day. I'm sad I wont be able to anymore but I'm clearly the guy that is attached to a tree that's about to be bulldozed that nobody cares about. And that's fine. I do regret any part I had in this action as like with Spanky, all my shots about libs and all that was in good fun and I actually enjoyed conversing with all those guys. I wouldn't have wasted my time coming here if that wasn't the case.

 

I think almost all the offenders fall into the same category. Everyone can clearly concede it went to the far but honestly there was another alternative, which was to actually moderate the board and be ready to hand out bans and lifetime bans as needed. I think this would've worked for sure and I know it would've kept me in line. But there was going to be a Boxy problem and the mods knew it. You've proven time and again that a ban is just going to keep you in line for a short period of time, you come back with a grand speech about self-reflecting and you'll be better and then you slip back into it in a short period of time. You're the only internet bully on here that I can think of. You're an immature, insecure, self-loathing internet prick/bully. You cant even afford a $50 video game yet you look down on clearly intelligent guys (like they have degrees and good jobs only because they vote Hillary) like MAx/Jim and call them stupid and retards because they have a different viewpoint. But how can the mods moderate if they're unwilling to take the proper action again the A1 offender? So rather than be faced with the scenario where they may have to hand a lifetime ban to their good friend, they just deleted all the threads. IT's like the teacher that fails to control/discipline a kid and instead punishes the whole class because it's easier.

 

You think we're alike because we agree on 90% of topics but that just means we both wax conservative. I have an arguing style that can turn people off for sure but I don't have insecurity issues where I consider myself better than anyone and I don't need to belittle someone to justify my own existence. I know you hate the nickel booth shrink routine but you're just such a textbook case, even Lucy could nail it. I have my issues irl but at least I can acknowledge them.

 

I think having good OT discussions was healthy for the board. A lot of mlb boards are graveyards and I think part of this reason the board even made it tp this point was it was more than just guys sharing stats. So good job ruing that part of the board.

Fair enough response actually. It’s not a game though, I’m genuinely pissed as I enjoyed those debates. As I said, I regret when I made comments outside the threads and for any part I played.

 

I’ll still probably monitor fantasy threads now and again.
