Owners are billionaires and do make a lot of money off the investment (most of them anyway), but they are owners for a reason. They use revenue to pay players, not their own dime. If revenue is compromised due to something completely out of anyone's control, then most businesses will let people go to avoided losses. Some owners will probably lose more money if they play the 2020 season and pay the players their prorated salary, so what's their incentive to even have the season if there isn't a reasonable split on money? On the flip side, I understand the players' POV as well. They have guaranteed contracts. If revenue increased, their salaries would stay the same, so why shouldn't it stay the same when revenue is down? Logical stance. Only issue is revenue is down because of a pandemic, not normal business issues. If owners were losing money because people suddenly stopped going to baseball games out of choice, then that's a different story. That's not the case here.

I'm always going to be on the side of wanting to see players to get paid. In this case though, I don't see how they (the players) can win in the court of public opinion.

Yeah, agreed. I’m a see-both-sides guy too but as you said, you’re talking about a national emergency. This isn’t a matter of whether the owners make more or less than projected during a season. If they were operating the same as always and then tried to talk about revenue split, then yeah I’d understand the players side more. But you’re talking about playing in front of no fans and still incurring all the costs of maintaining a staff and all the expenses around running an mlb team.

For teams without a super lucrative tv deal, there prob wouldn’t be much incentive to play games if you’re going to lose money. So this thing is probably dead in the water unfortunately, as reported at least

yep happy to see Garret Cole make 0 this year.

Baseball players started receiving some of their salary back April 1st.

$170 million that will be distributed to players via a tiered system. Only players on a big league or split contracts (veteran players on minor league deals) are eligible to receive compensation.

Dude, just put [tweet ] [/tweet ] between the tweet number, you're good, or [img ] and your link

Just like you use quotes, etc...

You guys are posting stuff with the watermark "The Sports Memery" across the middle. Come on guys, this is obviously false. It's not even funny. A 3 second search tells me Altuve barely uses Twitter and this interaction never happened.

Have to spend money to make money. With a huge vacuum of no sports, it would be a wise investment for the owners to take a loss this year, and increase the fan base.

Yes, there are 2 sides, but f***off this year. Owners will still get TV deals, which they were to lose, it can't be far for both sides to agree.

Is the Tweet between Jose Altuve and Aroldis Chapman real?? WoW LMAO!!

Considering they speak about as much English as you speak Spanish, it’s obviously a joke... ;)

Blake Snell is a f***ing retard. Not necessarily what he said, but how he said it. Rich pampered white boy straight from the hood. American education system at work. I never realized that I had a Canadian accent until today. And having one is a good thing.

Blake Snell crying like a baby online. f*** him and f*** the rest of the players. shut this s*** down

If he wants to make a stand and not get paid anything I guess that's his prerogative. I wonder how many other players have a similar mindset?
