I doubt the Jays will start next season in Toronto.

#Breaking: Federal government denies Raptors request to play in Toronto.

https://t.co/ixeMZ96laj?amp=1

We just had a release in Sask that we should have 180K doses of vaccine initially for jan/feb. That will do almost 9% of the population. I'm sure Toronto will get 15% allocation in the early going. By the time the baseball season hits in April that number could be 25 to 30% At 30% you could get all immunocompromised people under 60 and all people over the age of 60% done. I'm going to remain optimistic that the Jays will start the season in Toronto. Everything has to go well though.

people who work in the Jays F.O. have said that Shapiro has zero say in player personnel decisions, beyond approving a budget.

I'm sure these people in the Jays F.O. are completely aware of how often Shapiro and Atkins talk and what it any influence Shapiro has over Atkins.

Jan/Feb seems wildly optimistic... Approval and manufacture (and which vaccine?) still needs to happen, and that takes time, and we're 40 days from January. Also, if what I'm reading is accurate, it's a 2 dose vaccine 1 month between doses (though I haven't been following that closely, and that might not be every candidate.)

I mean, that would be amazing, but I don't see how the timing works out.

Realistically, though, they don't need fans in the seats to start the season, just need the players/coaches etc vaccinated... And making sure that all visiting players/coaches etc are also vaccinated. Fans by mid-late summer depending on how things play out.

That position is also corroborated with Shapiro's time in Cleveland as well his highly publicized fundamental belief in structuring a front office by creating a "think tank" of highly qualified collaborators. Even the way you worded that - Shapiro whispering into Atkins' ear about what to do - does not reflect the way in which our front office operates. You forget that up until a year ago, the front office also had Tony LaCava and Ben Cherington who are both about as qualified as Atkins is at carrying the "GM" title, also in the room. That also completely bypasses people like Mike Murov, Joe Sheehan, and even Andrew Tinnish who also exert their own influence such that even regardless of Shapiro's alleged input, Ross Atkins HIMSELF is not the Emperor at the helm. It seems entirely counterintuitive to suggest that all of these guys are paid a salary to do what, act as mouthpieces for a guy who publicly took himself out of "baseball operations" a decade ago? If you actually read about what he focuses his time on - going past the parameters of the "President" role to essentially represent the team as an Owner - then you'd know that there would be no time for him to micromanage to the level that this conspiracy theory suggests. And that is literally what it is - a conspiracy theory. I've literally read on here in one form or another that Shapiro dictates who we draft. He dictates free agent signings. He dictates any and all baseball trades. All without any burden of proof, and a mountain of evidence to suggest otherwise (including hearsay from people OUTSIDE of the organization). I'm kind of surprised that I haven't read yet that he's secretly feeding managerial decisions through an ear piece to Charlie Montoyo, because he seems to have found the magic key to operating on a 72 hour day, while everyone else on the planet is limited to 24 hours. How else could he supposedly perform all of these duties?

This came from our Health Minister. 6 million doses were bought by our government for q1. 4 from pfizer 2 from moderna. Sask gets 180K. Pfizer has already made a formal application to regulatory bodies in Canada, UK, USA etc for approval. We'll be vaccinating people in January. There aren't going to sit on things. All the provinces are working on distribution plans. I don't expect fans for the start of the season, but we should have the most vulnerable of society vaccinated by April. It really wouldn't make sense to block the Jays from playing in Toronto at that point. I mean even if it's just the 70 plus community and immunocompromised and health care workers that's going to ease the burden on the hospitals.

Paragraphs and spacing are your friend. You sure added a lot of context to my words. Thanks for reading my mind.

I never said there wasn't a collaborative think tank to the Jays team. It was Hurl that said Shapiro had zero"" input into player personnel decisions. I have no idea if Hurl even knows anyone in the front office or who he knows. I never suggested Shapiro has final say on anything. The idea that Shapiro doesn't have words of wisdom and thoughts shared with a larger group of people who work towards the decision making process is ridiculous IMO. I also take no issue with Shapiro's input. He's a bright guy.

It probably makes more sense to have immunocompromised individuals vaccinated last and have younger and healthier individuals vaccinated first. As counterintuitive as that sounds it is the latter group that is predominantly out and about and spreading the virus so vaccinating them initially may save more lives in the end.

There's a shitload more of them though. And the CFR for young healthy individuals is quite low. For these and a few other reasons, don't agree with your suggestion.

edit - there is also a question of whether these vaccines prevent infection, or only prevent moderate / severe illness.

This is an important point. If they prevent infection or don't allow the virus to build up enough load for the person to be infectious, then allowing the players to play if they've been vaccinated makes sense even if it's in front of no fans. If the players are still infectious with no symptoms, then it doesn't. We may not know the answer to that for some time.

Morosi now tweeting Vlad is down 40lbs since the start of the season. 20 during the season and he's lost 20 since the end of the season. He's hoping to lose 10 more and get to 235. Not sure how reliable this is though..lol.

This just gets me excited. A fit Vlad. Let's go spend some money. Make a trade. A couple impact players are within our reach. Add a couple relievers and let's roll. We're ready to compete!

Hope he doesn't just lose the weight because he'll just become weaker. There better be some weights as part of this plan.

lol... are you serious?

What’s the problem with it? Girth helps the momentum, he’s saying he hopes he makes up for losing it with strength training

These guys sometimes just workout with other friends and are so focused on only getting to a particular weight. He might think his job is done after shedding the pounds but its really not. He better hit the bench press too. We'll know this by how Vladdy's body looks come spring training.

If you follow the NBA, you'd know guys like Kevin Love have lost weight without putting strength back on. It completely changes your game and sometimes its for the worse. Also had a buddy who did the same. Some people are fine with doing cardio but cannot be pushed to do weights.

He's got two trainers with him, he's in Florida last I heard. He's a professional position player in the MLB, of course he's using weights, geez. That was taken care of a few years ago.

I was just pointing out a possible issue with how he looks. If he's losing weight that fast, he's probably on a cardio only workout. We'll see the final product soon enough and hope there's some muscle definition there lol.
