Probably delete your post because claiming my post is a fail when you're wrong makes you look pretty damn stupid, sorry.

Wait, too late, I just quoted you

I think you're confusing muscle definition with water retention (muscle bulking)

You don't understand body building then...

You don’t understand hypertrophy vs strength

My son just starting lifting for real last year, his junior year in hs. I was expecting him to be all-area for bb until they wussed out the season. Anyways, he got a lot stronger and didn’t put on any real mass.

Yes you can. In fact, the most effective way to lose weight is to gain strength.

but doers that necessarily mean adding muscle mass, as Dragon contends ?

Good luck to him next year. Tough year for kids in sports to be honest.

That’s the typical progression for a 16 year old male. Strength gains have never equaled mass. Two separate entities. Those strength gains will make a massive difference in his athletic abilities.

No. Gaining strength allows you the freedom to move more properly and with less pain. With that comes an increased ability to challenge the body physically. Increased physical activity produces a healthier human.

Most fat people are weak. That’s the truth.

Yeah his Sophomore year he didn’t play as he transferred from public to a private school and there was a 1 year sit rule in that case. He plays travel year-round so I’m like no biggie, just one year. Then missed last year and next year they’ve already cancelled Sectionals for the baseball season. So he’ll never play in a Sectionals. Bs

FYI when Ben Johnson first started training as a teenager he was about 165 lbs and could squat maybe 300 lbs. When he started training heavily, and became a world class sprinter, he could squat 700 lbs for a couple of reps, and yet he still only weighed between 170 and 175 lbs. So within 5 years he added 400 lbs on his squat, but only between 5 and 10 lbs bodyweight (which I think was probably mostly water retention).

How do I know this, because I used to be a member on his coach's message board. Charlie Francis (R.I.P) was his name.

This is his message board: https://community.charliefrancis.com/forum.php

My handle on there is SuperSprinter. In fact I'm gonna make a post right now so you know I'm telling the truth

Though I agree with your argument, BJ isn’t the best example lol.

Winstrol (his drug of choice) is a steroid very popular for gaining serious strength without weight gain

I would argue it completely proves my point. Of course he had help from the Winny V, but it proves you can put on serious strength without adding hardly any bulk at all

True but someone could claim you couldn’t do it naturally. I think junior said something along those lines “can’t do it without steroids”.. again, I’m on your side of debate though

yeah weak because they avoid physical activity. But as you said, it is most, not all. Similarly a thin person who is inactive can also be weak with horrible muscle tone.

But was he talking about Ben circa 1984 (bronze at the Olympics) or 1987/88. There is a noticeable difference in him post 1984. Sort of like what happened with Bonds and McGuire.

No, not attain a 700 lbs squat in such a short time, you are right. But he couldve easily gotten a 400 to 500 lbs squat the natural way within 5 years or so, and he couldve done it without gaining hardly any weight.

Anyways, I think we've beaten the topic to death.

For those who still disagree, please read the 2 articles I posted earlier

Just to clarify that is NEGATIVE 43 wRC+ (in 38 PA).

BUT in his defense, he did have 146 wRC+ in 33 PA in 2018 and 128 wRC+ in 105 PA in 2019, so has proven he can hit at the MLB level. This has been a screwed up season all around, and some guys may be affected more than others , so I would need to see more before writing him off.

ETA overall McGuire is 95 wRC+ in 176 PA at MLB level. Pretty good for a #2 catcher

He put up a .651 OPS in AAA Buffalo in 2018 and a .683 OPS in AAA buffalo in 2019.

I think there's a pretty good chance he's not very good. Obviously not as bad as his numbers this year, but not very good.

You can't necessarily go by minor league numbers. Jansen was tearing up the minors in 2017 and 2018. Look at his performance so far in the bigs (565 PA and 76 wRC+). I'll believe Kirk is something more than a maybe when he proves it in The Show. Anyway does this team need anymore fat guys. Seriously!

I just like Kirk's swing. He reminds me of Dustin Pedroia except he has a 100 pounds on Pedroia....lol
