BlueBaller Verified Member Posted August 1, 2020 Posted August 1, 2020 lol... he wasn't what we expected coming out of the gate last year, but he wasn't terrible either. It has been 7 games so far.his last 60 games were garbage.
Swervin81 Verified Member Posted August 1, 2020 Posted August 1, 2020 Honestly, he just needs to drop the bat a little and just be a bit more disciplined at the plate. His ability to crush the ball and bat speed are still there, his timing and approach are just off. s*** happens, players go through slumps. The weight is definitely more problematic, insofar that we had our hands completely forced into moving him over to 1st because he showed up so damn fat that he was physically unable to play 3rd. And now we gotta live with that learning curve midseason instead of it being an offense/spring transition. We've already had inexperience related plays (in the 9th against Tampa and 10th against Washington) bite us. At this point, we're honestly best off just letting him figure it out. It's not like Rowdy some untapped powderkeg we need to give more AB's to and it's certainly not like Drury is anything resembling useful. I'm totally down for moving him way down to 7th in the lineup or something and moving Teoscar up to Vladdy's spot for now, though.
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2020 Posted August 1, 2020 his last 60 games were garbage. Stop talking out of your ass, Vladdy Jr. torched MLB pitching to the tune of 159 WRC+ in August, which followed up the 120 WRC+ he put up in June. He started to struggle in the last month of the season.

The people that are complaining about Vladdy's struggles and suggesting that he is magically going to fix his problems against major league pitching by practicing against Blue Jays minor leaguers are missing the fact that removing Vladdy Jr's bat from the lineup means we have the "privilege" of watching far less talented players play on a daily basis. Are people actually pining to give more at-bats to the likes of Brandon Drury and Joe Panik? I'd rather see a talented young player with massive upside figure things out at the major league level than end up watching hopeless scrubs play on a daily basis.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted August 4, 2020 Posted August 4, 2020 Montoyo can do whatever he wants with the starting rotation after all those days off. We have 6 consecutive game days. Has he announced who he's using vs the Braves yet? Mlb.com showing Braves expected starters but not the Jays

BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2020 Posted August 4, 2020 We have pitching. And I like pitching.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2020 Posted August 4, 2020 Pearson misses one start to gain the extra year of control. Then essentially gets that back when the Jays skip a few s***** pitchers after the days off. I like that. It could hurt the team down the road if there are numerous double headers. We'll see how those postponed games make out.

Neat.

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 5, 2020 Posted August 5, 2020 Apparently Buffalo’s field is fine under normal conditions but they weren’t maintaining it. Atleast not maintaining it enough to be ready for Baseball this season. Especially when the Bisons season got cancelled. The Stadium is owned by the city they weren’t spending money on daily maintenance if they weren’t making money from playing on it.

Ah... that makes sense, no wonder the Mayor was pining for the Jays to play there. Sorry about them Rangers bro, you hexed them into a sweep.

Sorry about them Rangers bro, you hexed them into a sweep. I had no desire to watch the Rangers make the playoffs. Team was not anywhere near playoff caliber yet. They got crazy hot just to get into position to be apart of the qualifying round which was shocking in itself. I will take the highest draft pick and watch the team continue to develop.

They actually have a shot at 1st overall, also, you lie.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 5, 2020 Posted August 5, 2020 They actually have a shot at 1st overall, also, you lie. Getting Alex Lafreniere would be sick but not banking on it. And lie about what lol? The team was to young and inexperienced. Adding Panarin and Trouba was never going to change that you just don’t pass on adding those quality of players. Even though Trouba sucked this season.
Ex Player Verified Member Posted August 5, 2020 Posted August 5, 2020 So we only have to get 2nd place for a playoff spot. Should be doable
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted August 5, 2020 Posted August 5, 2020 I thought Shaw was back with the team. Why is he not in the lineup tonight?
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted August 5, 2020 Posted August 5, 2020 I thought Shaw was back with the team. Why is he not in the lineup tonight? 2nd lefty in as many days would be my guess. Not that I wouldn't rather have him over Drury regardless of matchup handedness mind you.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted August 5, 2020 Posted August 5, 2020 I thought Shaw was back with the team. Why is he not in the lineup tonight? Yeah I don't mind Shaw being platooned, but if Drury is the only option to play that role, then might as well keep Shaw in there everyday. Drury sucks against everyone.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 5, 2020 Posted August 5, 2020 I thought Shaw had some decent at-bats against lefties the first few games. His stats have been miserable in recent years but the guy has been out of the line for like 10+ days you gotta let get some reps. I want to like Drury but he just can’t hit. I’m surprised at some of the numbers he had with Arizona. Its not great or anything but I would f***ing take a little bit of that if possible lol. Atleast their was some intrigue.
