Is the longest tenured blue jay Teoscar Hernandez lol?

Even crazier it's Alford as he made his debut before we traded for Hernandez.

Wow this seems really odd to me, is this type of thing unique to the Jays?

No. I'm not going to look it up but the longest tenured Miami Marlin is probably Brian Anderson or someone that they drafted in or around like 2014.

Yeah I doubt anyone has a newer oldest player right now!

Andy Burns debuted with the Jays in 2016. f*** you all!

His tenure was interrupted by two years in Korea so I don't think he counts.

and the little problem of Andy Burns not actually being on the MLB team come April, whereas one, if not both, Teoscar and Alford almost certainly will be.

It will be interesting to see which of our half dozen failed starting prospect will emerge as late inning relievers.

Will be very interesting.

That's why I'm not sweating the holes in our bullpen right now.

The Jays actually have a good fielding 3B who can hit (if he rebounds) on the roster, but are playing him at 1B. I wonder if switching Vlad and Shaw is ever going to be a discussion in 2020 (for the front office).

It probably already has been a discussion and is part of the reason they went after Shaw vs. some of the statues available. They'll wait for a political correct opportunity to do it, like when Vlad is nursing a sore calf or something like that.

It should be interesting to see how Vlad's commitment to fitness instead of fatness pays off defensively. By Statcast he was 10 outs below average on balls where he had to move in, which lines up with what the eye test showed up as well. He seemed to have a hard time getting his big frame moving, and then had even more trouble slowing down afterward. I remember a play where Vladdy cut in front of the shortstop where he had to run almost to first base to get himself slowed down.

Devers went from -7 to +7 in a year after he started giving a s*** so I guess that's the hope for Vlad.

Yeah Devers is absolutely the test case for best case scenario for Vladdy defensively. Although if he isn't able to make some refinement to his swing to gain more loft I'm fearful he may not even hit the expected offensive peak that has been projected for him. Sure it's great to hit the ball hard, but if you are killing worms in China with your grounders then that negates so much of the potential damage.

Yeah, he hurt his knee on that play, when he threw across his body.

Does Vlad even want to play third base? Would he even care if he got moved off the position. I know they asked him what position he wanted to play when he signed and he said third. I just wonder if challenging him to get in better shape and to get better defensively if it would even matter to him. Maybe he’s content with being fat and playing 1B/DH because he just likes hitting.

Either way if he doesn’t come into camp in much better shape I think you have to consider discipline at that point.

Well if he ends up as a DH he would have be exceptionally good hitter to provide value. I think if he’s going to be fat and lazy now you should consider trading him while is still a mesmerizing young prospect. That body is just going to be a disaster once he gets into his late 20’s. If that’s his makeup and who he is. Honestly would trade him and try to maximize his return right now. We’re going to find out a lot of in the Spring how committed he is. The Jays have called him fat in every other way you could without saying the word.

He can have momma’s Dominican cooking once or twice a week. Otherwise I want to see nothing but chicken breast and kale on his plate if I’m the Jays. Double that water intake as well so his ass can actually fit in his pants this season.

Trade Vlad Jr eh? Who would you target?

The problem with this idea is that absolutely every other team will know what the Jays know if they try to deal him. Half this board can't get over the Donaldson trade. I can only imagine the disaster brewing here. If he's a fat lazy bastard might as well keep him and try to extend him at a low rate. A lowball contract backed up with data on how useless non-fielding players are might be the spark to get him into shape.

I don't think the Jays would try to force Vlad to play 3B if he didn't care where he played. Chances are he wants to play 3B, and the Jays are obliging while he's still young enough to potentially improve/get in shape. They'll make the switch when it's clear there is no hope (which might be in 2020).

If you're giving up on a 20 year old Vlad who just put up a 105 wRC+ in the majors when most players his age are in the low minors, I'm not exactly sure who you DON'T trade... Hell, start the rebuild all over again, it's failed guys!

Now, if the Angels offered us Trout + $300M then I'm probably accepting, but...

His Instagram is full of food videos. I didn't see much working out as of late...

He was the greatest hitting prospect ever and that was suppose to translate into being a great hitter, of the David Ortiz, Frank Thomas, Miguel Cabrerra type.

It's weird how everybody is complaining about his fatness and defense where that is like a 1 WAR swing. I know I'm a broken record but the difference between the optimistic version of Vlad's baserunning and defense (Hefty boy who just barely gets by) and what it actually was (fat-assed disaster) is like 1 WAR.

The difference between the hitting people thought they'd have (generational bat) and what we got (ground ball maniac who chased way more than expected) is like 5 or 6 WAR.

He's only 20... he hit kind of like rookie Miguel Cabrera, he might hit like a maniac next year and hopefully he will...

But his fate will be decided based on hitting... fatness has a small effect on total value...
