Why would you you want to delay all the commuters, cause a traffic jam and traumatize the driver...? Think of the big picture.

LAD are back in discussion with Ryu.. I do not see him leaving LA for Toronto unless HUGE, BIGGLY overspend by us... Considering he is 32 now and will be 33 in March, I would not risk that and age plus contract does not seem to fit with our timeline..

Yep

Unless the Dodgers are really after Cole. Friedman just got an extension though he has time

Time for the jays management team to put up or shut up.

Jays need a big splash this year.

I'd be fine with a series of small to medium splashes.

Nats have made their likely only move, once Cole is off the market Jays fans will really start to freak out.

Yeah I don't think this is trending well for Toronto. Once Cole and Strasburg are off the board, LAD will probably re-sign Ryu and some other teams like the White Sox or Twins will overpay for Keuchel and Bumgarner. Then Lindblom will probably break Toronto's hearts (and mine).

I feel like this is trending towards, at best, a couple of awkward pacts with ugly has-beens like Wacha, Teheran, Jimmer Nelson, Matty Moore, or Kevin Gooseman.

Yeah there are too many buyers higher on the win curve than the Jays this winter. I think Lindblom and Roark might be the best FA the Jays can realistically get, otherwise it will be in the lower tier.

Lessons learned in 2019 will come back to haunt Rogers as they will realize going into the 2020 season that the Blue Jays will be lucky to draw 1 million fans for games and Sportsnet subscriptions will be way down in sales.

It is apparent that both Atkins and Shapiro are nervous about their futures in Toronto as neither have secured a new contract beyond 2020/2021 nor have either been openly endorsed by the CEO or Board of Directors of Rogers.

This all adds up to Shapiro and Atkins being constrained on any big money moves for free agents as they have no job security, and both may see writing on the wall since no money had been forthcoming for renovations of the Rogers Centre. How long have we heard the so-called renovations BS and now no spending by the organization on any free agents.

If both Atkins and Shapiro had new contract extensions we probably would be talking a different tune right now, but both these guys are running the Blue Jays as a tight ship business so as to pad their resumes for future roles in other organizations. It is so obvious to mlb insiders that no one talks up the Blue Jays organization anymore.

We are going to see Shapiro/ Atkins leave in 2020 and or the Blue Jays put up for sale in 2020. All actions by Rogers points to this outcome unfortunately.

No chance. The Blue Jays are FAR more valuable to Rogers than they are to anyone else, it's free (and reported at way below market value) content for their myriad sports stations. If they sold the team, they'd have to pay for the TV rights at market value, or just give up and become the curling, darts, and poker channel(s).

Also, I don't think most of the rest of the comment tracks either, but... y'know.

And as usually the jays waited to long to sign a starting pitcher that

no above ave. pitcher will sign with the jays now. Great job jays.

Strasburg was never going to sign with the Jays, and he's literally the only significant piece that's currently off the table. But I'll be waiting for your identical post after Cole is signed (spoiler alert: he's not signing with the Jays either...)

There's a lot of pitchers next year too, and we'll be closer to competing. Ray, Bauer, Stroman, Odorizzi, Paxton, Tanaka, Kluber, Archer.

That doesn't matter they still need to come away with at least 2 starters this year. We have nobody right now.

FTFY.

If the season started tomorrow our rotation could be Anderson, Shoemaker, Thornton, Kay, Borucki, with Pearson and Merryweather joining later on, and depth like Hatch, Waguespack and Perez. That’s not a playoff rotation but it’s not “nobody” either.

Do we even have anyone average? Given the way last season turned out going into the season expecting significant contributions from Shoemaker, Kay, Borucki would be a major front office failure.

Get ready for it. Come the end of the winter meetings jays are going to

say we layed alot of ground work for future signings or trades like they do ever year.

So pretty much ********.

I'm sure bringing Edwin back is a carrot they can throw the fanbase

lol ya Happ/Encarnacion, nice long term pieces being considered here. I just don't see the point to having those types of players. They should want the top pick in the mlb draft next year or maybe not?

If the Jay's get the top pick in next years draft Shatkins wont be around to draft it

Based solely on last year? No. But outside of Anderson and Shoemaker everyone else is basically a rookie.

Hopefully this season we get at least 2 or 3 starters and 2 or 3 relievers from Merryweather, Kay, Borucki, Thornton, Pearson, Reid-Foley, Waguespack, Zeuch, Perez, and Hatch. That’d make a big difference.

Nobody here is targeting Happ, the goal there is the piece(s) that come back with him. I don't want EE anywhere near this team (unless he surprise retires and comes in as a coach of some kind maybe?) but if Happ comes with an attractive secondary piece, I'd make room for him.

Have you ever known the Yankees to give up anything of value in a trade. Go back and look at their transactions for the last 5 years. Name one piece of value they have ever given up

That is an excellent organization
