Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted October 22, 2019 Posted October 22, 2019 I'm sure there's a hell of a lot more to this story. I could easily see a scenario where those reporters have been pestering the front office about Osuna for quite some time, and Taubman being a little drunk after advancing, felt vindicated in taking the chance on acquiring Osuna and wanted everyone to know it, without considering how it might be interpreted. It's also possible that he's simply a prick. Either way, it's not a good look. He either screwed up without meaning any offense, or it was directed specifically at the female reporters on purpose. Regardless, he screwed up. Would reporters actually come into a clubhouse on the night the Astros advance to the World Series and start asking questions about how Osuna blew the save (promoting the defense by Taubman)? Why would they do that?

Why would they do that? Reporters would definitely do that (or at least some would, if they had a cause or narrative they wanted to further).
DigitalRock Old-Timey Member Posted October 22, 2019 Posted October 22, 2019 You are calling him a s*** stain for him calling out fake news.. The Astros say it was in response to a question about the blown save.. You have no more proof than anyone else here as to what is true.. This guy and NO one should be found guilty, tarred, feathered and fired based on one side of an account. I think it is pretty obvious Slade is calling out the part that smells like BS.. Fake news with multiple witnesses that corroborate the story...are you a dumb trump supporter or just an idiot?
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted October 22, 2019 Posted October 22, 2019 Fake news with multiple witnesses that corroborate the story...are you a dumb trump supporter or just an idiot? The Houston organization did not dispute what Taubman said, but labeled the story “misleading.” Go ahead, be judge jury and executioner of the guy because you read something on the internet and it must be true the first version you read.. Remember that kid who supposedly was making fun of Indians with the Trump hat.. I do.... Calling fellow posters shitstains and being totally unhinged if I can be honest, based on one side of a report.. and all the poster did was question the report. No one here is defending Osuna or defending domestic violence. Get off your high horse and moral internet crusade.. Read where the expression witch hunt, came from because you would be the one burning them at the stake..
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted October 22, 2019 Posted October 22, 2019 Yeah because the athlete beating the s*** out of a defenceless 100lb woman is really the victim here Hitler was also going through a difficult time when he ordered all those Jews on the train Our executive was only supporting Hitler during a difficult time Barkerfan23, Barkerfan23, please report to HR for a drug test... Paging Barkerfan23, Barkerfan23, please report to HR for a drug test.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted October 22, 2019 Posted October 22, 2019 Reporters would definitely do that (or at least some would, if they had a cause or narrative they wanted to further). That's savage. Perhaps if they have the gull to be ****s - people should have the right to tell them to pound salt and leave.

The media gets away with way too much, and I fully support calling them out on it or asking them to leave if they do. That's not license to be a **** in return though. I'm sure more will come out on this in the next few days, and we'll have a better idea of what actually happened.

Slade Old-Timey Member Posted October 23, 2019 Posted October 23, 2019 http://www.espn.com/video/clip?id=27902821 This is my problem here, nobody is calling her a liar. It seems everyone knows exactly what was said but she reported it that the comments were directed at 3 female reporters one of which was wearing a anti domestic violence bracelet. In the interview itself she is pretty much saying she doesn't have the context on it.
BTS Community Moderator Posted October 23, 2019 Posted October 23, 2019 Is anyone else having a hard time understanding the moral panic about this story? Apparently one of the reporters in the room tweets the domestic abuse hotline number every time Osuna pitches. I'm guessing some comments were made about the blown save, and the drunk AGM was annoyed, and emboldened enough to defend him in a brash way. Uncomfortable workplace interaction, but its a team employee stating that he's happy that a current Astro is a current Astro. This isn't a story.
RobinThicc Verified Member Posted October 23, 2019 Posted October 23, 2019 what I got from it was that there was one reporter who made a point to tweet out/mention a domestic abuse hotline every time Osuna pitched. Organization probably noticed this and didnt like it. Douchey assistant GM see's this reporter and yells at her "im so happy we got osuna" as some sort of FU to her. its not the biggest deal, but still a dumb thing to do and he should be embarrassed.

A minor story until they made it much worse by denying it (a lie), then having to admit they lied.

Maybe it was the Alcohol and drugs at the time.
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted October 23, 2019 Posted October 23, 2019 Roberto Osuna has not been found guilty/convicted of a criminal offence.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2019 Posted October 24, 2019 Honestly, someone tweeting the DV hotline number every time Osuna pitches sounds so annoyingly 'woke' that I don't blame the Astros for being upset. Osuna did something terrible (allegedly) but to have to remind everyone of that every time he pitches is excessive as hell. Google exists. People will know what Osuna has done/been accused of. Of course, the AGM should have known better than to do that publicly. That's a battle he has no chance of winning.

DigitalRock Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2019 Posted October 24, 2019 They fired him after defending him? weird.
BTS Community Moderator Posted October 24, 2019 Posted October 24, 2019 Surely this pound of flesh will improve the lives of the internet commentators who are in no way associated with the Astros, but still really, really wanted their AGM fired.
DigitalRock Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2019 Posted October 24, 2019 Interesting time to choose the moral high ground after you traded for a player suspended for domestic assault. This.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted October 24, 2019 Posted October 24, 2019 What do we all suspect about the Astros F.O.? They do shady s***. Like real baseball shady s***. MLB was about to investigate. Firing Taubman ends the investigation.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2019 Posted October 24, 2019 Interesting time to choose the moral high ground after you traded for a player suspended for domestic assault. If Taubman could throw 99 he'd still be an Astro.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2019 Posted October 24, 2019 It's almost as if having a senior front office exec get drunk in front of the media is a bad idea. Who would ever have suspected? Taubman screwed up. It's probably not nearly as bad as people are making it out to be, but it was still really stupid.

Common sense no longer exists.

thatoneguy Old-Timey Member Posted October 25, 2019 Posted October 25, 2019 How does one manage to screw up a response to something like this so badly?
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted October 25, 2019 Posted October 25, 2019 How does one manage to screw up a response to something like this so badly? LOL. I mean, I feel at least a little sympathetic to the Astros given that the reporter seems to have an agenda that likely played a part in all of this. Still, handle it right and stop digging yourself deeper. Maybe the Astros need to hire someone to handle preparing personnel for things like this

Maybe the Astros need to hire someone to handle preparing personnel for things like this I mean this is all tied to them signing someone who was embroiled in a domestic violence accusation in the first place. Glad the Blue Jays aren't having to deal with Osuna now despite the fact that he was a great reliever for us.
