Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted September 12, 2019 Posted September 12, 2019 - Josh Donaldson is really good - He’s old and won’t command a super-long contract (see: last year) - We have tons of payroll to utilize for good vets on short-to-medium term - We could use a masher DH and our 3B isn’t very good at 3B anyway - We already love Josh Donaldson - Bring back Josh Donaldson

Barkerfan23 Verified Member Posted September 12, 2019 Posted September 12, 2019 Edwin is also a good candidate to bring back
wk680 Verified Member Posted September 12, 2019 Posted September 12, 2019 They already destroyed their relationship with him otherwise he would be a near perfect add So fire Atkins and Shapiro ASAP, then have the new management team woo back JD and or EE?
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted September 12, 2019 Posted September 12, 2019 Would love it. Give him 3/75 - 30/30/15, move Vlad to first. Your only job is to hit so get comfy over there. I hate the idea of this team constructing the roster around Vlad being cemented at third.
keggy Verified Member Posted September 12, 2019 Posted September 12, 2019 Edwin is also a good candidate to bring back We didn't part with Edwin on great terms either. We basically dared him to turn down our contract offer and signed Morales at the same time to seal him off.
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted September 12, 2019 Posted September 12, 2019 He fell out with the medical team, and hated playing for a losing team. No chance he chooses to sign here, even if we offered the most money. He’ll sign for a contender.

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted September 12, 2019 Posted September 12, 2019 As a bridge to Groshans, sure. I think Moustakas on a 4 yr deal would be the better target though, younger, more durable and probably cheaper. Try to retain max salary dollars for pitching, FA this offseason or the next or via trade.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted September 12, 2019 Posted September 12, 2019 What if no legitimate contenders want him ? I don't see why Atlanta would not bring him back
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted September 12, 2019 Posted September 12, 2019 I don't see why Atlanta would not bring him back I'm sure they'd want to. JD will have multiple offers. It'll come down to $, term, location (where he wants to be).
Laika Community Moderator Posted September 12, 2019 Posted September 12, 2019 Moustakas on a 4 yr deal I'm sorry... what?
Laika Community Moderator Posted September 12, 2019 Posted September 12, 2019 I don't see why Atlanta would not bring him back Well he's expensive and Austin Riley is a third baseman.

You have no idea how much of an impact player Groshans will be. How about we actually let him earn his way into the position before anointing him?

If they gift 3B to Vlad next year and forgo good fits for the position, I'll be very upset.
DigitalRock Old-Timey Member Posted September 12, 2019 Posted September 12, 2019 lol at this..JD won't come back here, especially with another 1-2 years of losing ahead.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted September 12, 2019 Posted September 12, 2019 lol at this..JD won't come back here, especially with another 1-2 years of losing ahead. You know we'd be bringing him back as part of an effort to win, right?
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted September 12, 2019 Posted September 12, 2019 JD seems like a dickhead, but I love watching him play, and respect his competitiveness. If the Braves are on I never turn the channel. He is still a hell of a ballplayer. I doubt he would ever come back to this FO. I just wish we would have moved him in 2017 at deadline or summer. I always wonder if Rogers stopped the FO from making that move. Its hard to conclude his 2017 value would increase incrementally more in '18.

I guess the best way to look at it is, putting money aside, and just looking at character...is JD the kind of guy you'd want your daughter dating?

Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted September 12, 2019 Posted September 12, 2019 Donaldson literally told Anthopoulos that he wanted to stay in Toronto like a week and a half ago. Taken in context (i.e. he seemed to love it here before it all went wrong) it suggests he would have wanted to stay if he’d remained fit and we’d been competing. Rather than suggesting that after his Jays career was ruined by injury (which he blames the medical team for mishandling) and we started a rebuild, that’d he’d choose to play for us right now.
Barkerfan23 Verified Member Posted September 12, 2019 Posted September 12, 2019 I think JD comes back if we offer him a deal sufficient enough.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted September 12, 2019 Posted September 12, 2019 I don’t see any scenario in which the Blue Jays compete next year. And he will have no shortage of suitors after his latest monster season.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted September 12, 2019 Posted September 12, 2019 I know the whole argument is you get WAR where you can, but the team really needs to focus its cash on pitching. A #2 starter for Donaldson dollars has a much greater incremental impact for this team.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted September 12, 2019 Posted September 12, 2019 I think JD comes back if we offer him a deal sufficient enough. Money supercedes everything if there's enough money. This is not news. It would take a shitload of money to bring JD back here though. There is zero chance.....ZERO.... That this management group attempts to bring JD back.

Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted September 12, 2019 Posted September 12, 2019 Sign Cole and fix some offensive positions and we could easily contend imo “Easily” yeah if we acquire multiple elite players (including more pitchers than just Cole). Which obviously isn’t going to happen in one offseason.

Which obviously isn’t going to happen in one offseason. You dont have to have a crazy payroll and proven superstars to contend. Adding Cole and Pearson to the SP staff and a proven OF and a DH would be more than enough to get us into contender status. Would we be top contenders, probably not....but easily in the contender status range lmao
