So that's better than finding out what you have? Let me ask you soemtjjnb? What are you finding about Drury after he has been one of the worst hitters in baseball over almost 700 plate appearances now

You cant really believe what you see in spring training or September anyways.

So playing Fisher (or any other rookie) right now wont really tell you much IMO

Fisher will be kept for sure. I suspect McKinney will be released. Drury, I'm not sure. I wouldn't be shocked by whatever happens with him

I think Drury might be gone as well, unless they wanna turn him into a utility player

Looks like someone in the front office finally told ****oyo to finally f*** off with the opener. Team is nearly 30+ games under .500 and teams eliminated from the playoffs lol. Let the young starters throw the Ball every 5th day.

First of all, you're out to lunch if you think it was Montoyo's idea to implement the opener, the guy who multiple times has told the media he has no idea who's pitching tomorrow. Second, with Thornton, Kay and Waguespack going, these are our only real starters so that's why you haven't seen the opener being used for a few games.

As a 25 year old Davis put up a .740 OPS at AA. At 25 Alford put up .754 OPS at AAA. Alford put up a .914 OPS over the past 90 days at AAA. There is the possibility that he's made some adjustments and found something. When you say Alford is abysmal, you clearly are talking about his bat because he defense and base running abilities are f***ing fantastic. For guys who live for FWAR it's shocking how little you put into minor leaguer's defensive and base running abilities. Is it simply a matter that you can't google fangraphs and have them put a number out there for you for minor leaguers so you just ignore it.

You can get a replacement level player with a terrible bat and good defense and baserunning whenever you want one. A guy like that with no options doesn't have any value.

You're underestimating his defense and base running abilities. I remember when Gio Urshela was hot garbage too. When a guy goes from a 40% K rate and a .473 OPS in the first month to putting up an .OPS north of 900 the rest of the way, I'm going to at least want to see how that plays at the MLB level. Especially when the guy is 6'1 215 of pure muscle and plays defense like Alford does.

What's the point in giving Grichuk and Teoscar at bats. They aren't going to be better players next year because of these at bats. Seeing guys like Davis and Alford gives you the information you need for the off season. We'll see how much value Alford has when Oakland picks him up for nothing in the off season.

Other reasoning maybe expectations management. Perhaps the goal is to lose as many games as possible this year, so that the 15 or 20 games improvement is a lower benchmark.

This better be our last outright tanking season. Hard to watch this s*** for 162 games.

Keep in mind that the team entered the past two seasons ('17 and '18) with the intent to compete. So this is actually only the first season they entered with the rebuild actually in full progress. Considering the current state of the pitching, a .500 record next season is likely a stretch goal, but hopefully they make some successful additions in the off-season that will jump start things.

But I agree this is getting hard to watch.

Very ugly stretch, vlad's ops close to dipping below. 800.

Part of it is simply you develop less if nothing but pieces of s*** around you. The rest of the team is garbage, so there isn't much push for Vlad to do better.

Look at the hitters hitting before and after him. Tellez and Grichuk. Both would appears as two of the worst hitters in the majors for plate appearances above 200

Bichette needs to go back to the minors...groundballs and Ks. Very s***** swing and no power or on base skills. Last two weeks he is hitting .235 with a .656 OPS. Got lots to work on and isnt an every day player right now

Giles could use some work on the farm when he returns also

Really poor sarcasm and stupid. Good job.

Not to be Tercet, but Bichette's k/bb doesn't seem as if it can lead to good things... of course neither does Fernado Tatis' or Javier Baez's... so who knows. Maybe in this era it works.

Vlad hits too many ground balls.

Not that the minors is the place to work on that... but they do have things to work on.

Anyone think the hitting coach will be fired?? Not just for Bo and Vlad (who are performing fine for 20/21 year olds albeit with warts..). but the non-development and of McKinney, Grichuk, Hernandez, Drury, Jansen, etc.

I mean, if you get the guys currently carrying .280 on base percentages up to .310 it would help a lot... and for those of you who say the hitting coach doesn't make a difference... why have a hitting coach??

If they trade Alford and keep drury and McKinney oh boy fans will be pissed

I dont see why they wouldnt. Every indication has been that they really believe in both Drury and McKinney.

In any case the honeymoon is coming to an end. Starting in 2020 its time to put up.
