Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 1, 2020 Posted April 1, 2020 Two years ago Holy cow, time's flied.
Jakob Ehman Verified Member Posted April 1, 2020 Posted April 1, 2020 Man - I saw a highlight of Vlady hitting the game winning HR in the bottom of the 9th in Montreal (was that last spring or 2 springs ago?). He looked significantly smaller then. A video of him playing vitilla in the Dominican was posted today and he's looking pretty soft and thick again. https://www.mlb.com/bluejays/news/vladimir-guerrero-jr-keeps-slugging-in-vitilla

The more worrisome aspect is there doesn't seem to be the same level of covid-19 precautions in the DR, going by that video. Also, welcome to the board.

Vladdy certainly doesn't seem to be self isolating. What is happening in countries that are less developed? Are they shutting down? I can't imagine they are testing much. They don't seem to be getting a lot of coverage.
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2020 Posted April 2, 2020 Glutton, who me??? You are glutton free
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2020 Posted June 24, 2020 So with the extra few months, do we think Vlad will have been working out even harder, or will he have been comfort eating?
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2020 Posted June 24, 2020 So with the extra few months, do we think Vlad will have been working out even harder, or will he have been comfort eating? Who cares, he's going to rake!
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2020 Posted June 24, 2020 Who cares, he's going to rake! He was supposed to rake last year too.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 25, 2020 Posted June 25, 2020 He was supposed to rake last year too. lol... soooo?
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted June 25, 2020 Posted June 25, 2020 lol... soooo? Sooooooo.... Maybe being in better shape will help him get to his ultimate raking potential. Hence the entire point of this thread .

Man, I was thinking of this, and really worry what kind of shape he will show up in. My biggest concern is he already has had some knee problems as a youngster, and the extra weight will continue to be a detriment there. I would like to see him maintain a decent 240 lb 'compromise' weight....
polar bear Verified Member Posted June 25, 2020 Posted June 25, 2020 lol... soooo? Big disappointment for me.
FrozenRopes Verified Member Posted June 28, 2020 Posted June 28, 2020 Vladito looking a squishy 232 or so. Not ideal.

Hence the entire point of this thread . Well they both publicly said the goal was to get in shape, kid's going to rake! He was a rookie with a lot of pressure on him, wasn't even bad, and here we are.
wilko Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2020 Posted June 29, 2020 I'd say he eats himself into 1B/DH either this year or next.
BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2020 Posted June 29, 2020 I think Vlad will do great offensively, so which bag he stands next to won’t matter. He’s clearly put in the work to get into shape this offseason. I just hope he will stay healthy. The Blue Jays have traditionally been very strong at 1B. It’s probably our strongest position historically aside from RHP. Name / Career WAR John Olerud 58.1 rWAR Fred McGriff 52.6 rWAR Carlos Delgado 44.4 rWAR Edwin Encarnacion 36.0 rWAR Not even mentioning Upshaw, Lind, Overbay, or Smoak. We’ve always had a good first baseman in the middle of our lineup. Vladdy Jr has a chance to put himself in that upper category, which is really special.
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2020 Posted July 4, 2020 He looks like he's in a bit better shape than last year.
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2020 Posted July 4, 2020 He looks like he's in a bit better shape than last year. That's from last year.
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2020 Posted July 4, 2020 That's from last year. My bad wasn't paying attention to the year.
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2020 Posted July 9, 2020 Ok let's try this again what do you guys think now? To me he looks exactly the same pretty much 1 year apart.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2020 Posted July 9, 2020 Looks a little heavier to me. Not nearly as bad as I was fearing though.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2020 Posted July 9, 2020 Looks a little heavier to me. Not nearly as bad as I was fearing though. Looks 10+ lbs heavier to my eye. Angles aren't similar, fellas.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2020 Posted July 9, 2020 Ok let's try this again what do you guys think now? To me he looks exactly the same pretty much 1 year apart Lol that is such an unfair matchup for Pannone.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2020 Posted July 9, 2020 (edited) Lol that is such an unfair matchup for Pannone. Vlad looks the same to me, but he can still put up a 900+ OPS. Just move him to first and put shaw at 3rd. Rowdy looks like he might have lost 20 though. I'm not giving up on big Rowdy just yet. Black can be slimming and deceiving. There was a 2 seconds of Rowdy in a 42 second clip. Are my eyes deceiving me or did Rowdy lose some weight? https://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/blue-jays-get-work-toronto-summer-camp-safety-measures-place/ Edited July 9, 2020 by saskjayfan
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2020 Posted July 9, 2020 Angles aren't similar, fellas. Ya but 10+ lbs would align with how I voted in the poll!
