Hard to say.

The more worrisome aspect is there doesn't seem to be the same level of covid-19 precautions in the DR, going by that video.

Also, welcome to the board.

Vladdy certainly doesn't seem to be self isolating.

What is happening in countries that are less developed? Are they shutting down? I can't imagine they are testing much. They don't seem to be getting a lot of coverage.

So with the extra few months, do we think Vlad will have been working out even harder, or will he have been comfort eating?

Who cares, he's going to rake!

lol... soooo?

Sooooooo.... Maybe being in better shape will help him get to his ultimate raking potential.

Hence the entire point of this thread .

Man, I was thinking of this, and really worry what kind of shape he will show up in. My biggest concern is he already has had some knee problems as a youngster, and the extra weight will continue to be a detriment there. I would like to see him maintain a decent 240 lb 'compromise' weight....

Well they both publicly said the goal was to get in shape, kid's going to rake!

He was a rookie with a lot of pressure on him, wasn't even bad, and here we are.

I think Vlad will do great offensively, so which bag he stands next to won’t matter. He’s clearly put in the work to get into shape this offseason. I just hope he will stay healthy.

The Blue Jays have traditionally been very strong at 1B. It’s probably our strongest position historically aside from RHP.

Name / Career WAR

John Olerud 58.1 rWAR

Fred McGriff 52.6 rWAR

Carlos Delgado 44.4 rWAR

Edwin Encarnacion 36.0 rWAR

Not even mentioning Upshaw, Lind, Overbay, or Smoak. We’ve always had a good first baseman in the middle of our lineup.

Vladdy Jr has a chance to put himself in that upper category, which is really special.

He looks like he's in a bit better shape than last year.

Ok let's try this again what do you guys think now? To me he looks exactly the same pretty much 1 year apart.

Looks a little heavier to me. Not nearly as bad as I was fearing though.

Looks 10+ lbs heavier to my eye.

Angles aren't similar, fellas.

Lol that is such an unfair matchup for Pannone.

Vlad looks the same to me, but he can still put up a 900+ OPS. Just move him to first and put shaw at 3rd. Rowdy looks like he might have lost 20 though. I'm not giving up on big Rowdy just yet. Black can be slimming and deceiving. There was a 2 seconds of Rowdy in a 42 second clip. Are my eyes deceiving me or did Rowdy lose some weight?
