Anyone else worried with only 2 plus pitches he's most likely ending up as a reliever? I mean, he doesn't even have a plus changeup.

He was a reliever in college and made him a starter in his junior season. Has basically been the top college righty in this year’s class (sans the game he got rocked pitching against Lodolo’s team).

It looks like Atkins went for need here instead of BPA but I will withhold judgement until we see him pitching in our system.

With guys like Carroll there could be signability issues so we really never know what’s happening behind the scenes, maybe Arizona offered him a truck of money.

This is what the #11 pick produces? Should have looked for an athletic outfielder with power who can play CF.

Like Grichuk?

Ahh...the way everyone was fawning I thought he was top 5 ranked or something

that is one person repeating himself over and over

The Jays are definitely going to acquire Josh Naylor now from the Padres.

Thiccc is the new untapped market.

He throws 99 and doesn't walk many. End convo...it's what you look for in a pick

And Blake Snell is proof you don't need a good jaw

Don't like the pick because Alek is an annoying name.

We're also just a couple years away from every kid being named Aiden, Caden, Jaden, Baden, Hayden etc.

More like someone to hopefully replace Grichuk, should have taken Carrol.

oh come on..... trying to fill roster spots at the time of the draft is a fool's errand

Remember last time Jays took a 6'6" pitcher with the 11th overall pick?

David something?

edit - was thinking of David Purcey, a dud not as much of a dud as Deck McGuire though

Are we thin in OF prospects? It has to start somewhere and Carroll, although kind of small, has no holes in his game. Maybe we just keep taking fliers in the Rule 5?

But your right. The 11th pick is where you should be getting stars...like Scherzer (2006), Cutch (2005), Smoak (2008), Springer (2011) and even Addy (2012)...if only we had AA back. I mean twice he had the 11th pick and didn't miss either time.

Carroll is a high schooler, how can you say he has no holes in his game? Jays have plenty of middle infield prospects that can easily switch to OF. Plus there is free agency, trades, etc.

Draft should always be BPA.

You can trade for them. You can sign them internationally. You can sign them as free agents.

You probably shouldn't just take an OF just because you need OF. With Carrol, its also possible it was a signability thing.. didn't he go to Arizona? They have a big pool.

You never draft based on need. It was that strategy that made the jays pass on Tulo for Romero. Not saying that Alek will be anything, he could bust but you don't draft base on need.

Tellez coaching?

No his roster spot will be safe once Atkins reads his statcast page and offers him a 5 year extension. (He'll quickly accept)

What a ringing endorsement from our head of scouting. lol

This is actually a f***ing gross way of describing your first round pick.

Lol.. Sounds like the conversation Buck and Pat will be having about him tomorrow night.

Isn't that almost exactly what they said about McGuire and Jenkins? Third time is a charm, right guys?

I really want him to prove us wrong, but atm I do not like this pick.

Damn. Even the head of scouting can't exaggerate to hype the guy up.

Between that and Keith Law liking the pick....I don't know what's worse.

Yep, plenty of our infield prospects can easily transform to CF.
