Well the difference between this guy and Jenkins and McGuire picks right away this guy is a stuff guy and hits high 90’s. I don’t think that’s a fair or good comparison just because hes big and chubby.

You can trade for them. You can sign them internationally. You can sign them as free agents.

You probably shouldn't just take an OF just because you need OF. With Carrol, its also possible it was a signability thing.. didn't he go to Arizona? They have a big pool.

You can say the same thing in acquiring pitching. At least there's a track record regarding health and what you're more or less getting.

Ugh, you can't predict pitcher durability. Our head of scouting is a moron?

Hopefully he's just tempering expectations.

He's talking to the media. He's not supposed to actually say anything real there.

Reading between the lines, it sounds like Manoah is definitely not Sanders' guy.

Maybe he was more in on Rutledge or Caroll and the "room" outvoted him? Who knows?

I'm willing to give him a chance. Maybe the high performance team can help him shed the fat and build muscle to take its place. Guessing they like the velo, K%, BB%, and emotion. They love guys like Bichette, Stroman, & Gurriel who show tons, so they may see it as a willingness to compete and become the best?

I mean, you still have to draft pitching at some point like any other position. If they took Manoah because they thought 'we need pitching' then this is a bad pick. Same logic applies. I'm giving the benefit of the doubt and he was the best signable player on their board.

Stuff guy? He currently commands two pitches.

Blue Jays punt the pick, get top 5 and top 12 pick next season. Common phantom medical issue! (i am jk fyi).

It means he throws hard Gruber.

Who cares if a guy throws 4 or 5 pitches if they all suck. He also throws a change. I will take a guy with 2 elite pitches over a guy with 4 average ones. Especially when he can add an average change.

This chick is awful, but I suppose that just means she fits in with the rest of this broadcasting team.

About the team's first round pick? Eh, I dunno.

Oh, you think he should have been hyping him more? I thought you meant he didn't really say anyhting. I guess so, but it's not really a big deal imo.

Tampa taking Jones.. seems like smart teams are taking tooled up guys and thinking they can develop them. It's like a role reversal of the early days of the stat revolution.

Toglia is going to be a popular target for fantasy NPD.

This year's Triston Casas? Or is he more Grant Lavigne?

Rays are such a good organization they must have been thrilled when someone was willing to take Montoyo away from them.

Oh give me a break, they all throw hard in today's game, especially a #11 pick. It doesn't mean s*** but hopefully he turns into something, even if it's a good late inning guy.

Also I see BJ Upton is back he dropped the Melvin Upton Jr. thing in retirement.

70 raw power 1B going to Colorado. Pick and trade when he tears apart the Cal league.

I thought it was the worst pick so far. And I love everything the Rays do.

It's almost like it's not an MLB draft without the Jays punting their first pick

Blue Jays have become more frustrating to watch draft than the Raptors. I don’t know how you don’t go Singer unless he’s hurt.

Skipping the bargaining stage of grief with this one. Call me if this f***in kid does something 5 years from now.

Why the f*** would you not take the best player available at #12 when there's consensus top-5, top-10 guys available, and then try and save some chump change to "seduce" 2nd round talents later in the draft, where you're not even likely to sign them.

Seems like a reach.

I just want to say that it's hilarious reading this thread and the spazzing out because the player the Jays didn't pick was ranked x by BA. None of you ever learn. You literally don't know anything about any of these players.

He looks like s*** in that video until he finally hits a homer around 3:40. But I'm not a scout so I can't really say much about it other than that. His swing does look funny but that doesn't necessarily mean it's bad.

This is the board's immediate reaction to the Jordan Groshans pick last year. This post isn't meant to throw anyone under the bus, as there are a lot of good posters among that group. I get it, the draft is fun and you get attached to some of these guys because you've been reading some promising reports over the last few weeks/months, it's all in the heat of the moment.

But let this post serve as a reminder that every team has been scouting these kids for years, they've held private workouts, they know substantially more than we do. We do this every single year, despite not being surprised by the overreactions, maybe we can learn to accept that we truly know nothing about these guys and trust the professionals who have built an excellent farm system top to bottom. Every single year someone goes apeshit by the Jays not picking their guy, not knowing if there are health issues, signability concerns, or if the guy that was picked by the team is truly what they consider BPA.
