BLUE JAYS

GRADE: D-

About as bad as gets without being an F. The Blue Jays are a threat to get no-hit every night, the rotation has been hit so hard by injuries that they had to trade for Edwin Jackson , and potential long-term pieces like Danny Jensen, Teoscar Hernandez , and Billy McKinney have fallen flat. Marcus Stroman has been very good, Ken Giles has been outstanding, and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has finally been called up. That is the extent of the positives here.

Can't really dis-agree with what they say here.

Well that’s a fairly derpy analysis, most people didn’t expect much of anything from Teoscar or Billy. Jansen has been s***** as first full season catchers at the big league level usually are.

They’re not wrong but their reasoning is. And for Pete’s sake if you’re getting paid to write about pro athletes spell their f***ing name right.

I mean, exactly as bad as it gets without being an F. There are no E grades.

I disagree. Shatkins definitely was expecting something out of at least one of Teoscar, McKinney, Gurriel, Drury, etc. but all 4 have fallen flat on their face. Throw in Jansen looking like s***, Bichette breaking his hand and little else positive happening and this season has been a disaster.

What's one thing going well right now? Maybe Thornton looks like a #5? Tellez looks like he could be a bench player in the NL as a pinch hitter? This season sucks. The only reason to pay attention is to see how well Vlad Jr. does and even he's off to a slow start.

I think a D- is a little generous to be honest.

Positives you've missed include that Stroman is good again, and Giles is still elite. At the very least that's two very valuable trade assets, even if neither is extended.

You're right that most of the players that we need to do well haven't so far, but I'd also point out that there are 120 games left. We have lots of time for young players like Jansen and Gurriel to turn it around, and quite a few prospects who will be called up at some point (either for the first time, returning from injury, or returning from AAA).

The only difference between Tellez and Drury is Tellez has 2 more singles, and Drury can handle 3 key defensive positions... so I don't know why an NL team would want Tellez instead of Drury.

They've all been bad. Tellez, Drury, Gurriel, Hernandez, Mckinney, Jansen, and Vladimir Guerrero JR. have hit a combined .220 .267 .330... or whatever. That number is estimated but close...

And Bichette broke his hand. Not that that one is Charlie's fault... Just another kick in the nuts.

Is Tellez a legit MLB player, or is he a career minor leaguer?

Clearly 200 plate appearances in the majors is enough to make that big a judgement.

Let him play and we'll find out. Worth half a win in 200 PA's as a rookie DH/1B is not too shabby so far.
