If the team isn't contending by year X, I would fire Shatkins.

    • Year 4 (this year)
    • Year 5 (2020)
    • Year 6 (2021)
    • Year 7 (2022)
    • Year 8+ (2023 and beyond)

Been discussed already, fully expect the Jays to be active in the free agent market this offseason. A lot of budget room and the team needs to progress from 2019.

so we can expect more signings like Shoemaker, Bucholz and Richard, or are these f***ers going to actually try to get someone good for once?

Highly unlikely. Next year will be a feeling out process, and we'll probably look to spend in 2021 to fill the holes.

I'll be pretty surprised if they spend. The only good pitcher on the staff is Giles, and he'll probably be traded in the offseason. They'd need to acquire an entire pitching staff.

We will see. I expect it will start this offseason. Vlad, Bichette, Biggio and the others are only under team control for so long.

I expect the team to start adding in the winter of 2020, heading into the 2021 season. Next year will probably be another down year, possibly with a bit more volatility with young talent rather than veteran s***, so hopefully a win total in the 70's. Then they'll start to add pieces for 2021.

So we can look forward to another 60-70 win season in 2020 ? Oh that should do wonders for the level of support from the fickle bandwagon Toronto fanbase and country-wide TV viewership. Rogers is mis-managing this thing into the ground.

I don't think they'll spend.

Rogers has been purging lately. Their $5B investment in the NHL has gone very poorly. They've been canning people from their media side. I just hear that they're not doing well. This rebuild came at a perfect time for them financially. I doubt you'll see any significant contracts or increases in payroll for a couple of years at least. That's just me speculating...but I really don't see Rogers opening up the chequebook.

What about selling the team ?

Didn't they just spent a ton of money on dunedin?

$80M I think. Might need the payroll to stay down to augment that investment for a bit.

As for selling the team, there were rumours a year or so ago that Rogers would consider it...but then things went quiet. Wouldn't surprise me if they're shopping the team around, but it would be a very complex sale as I'm sure they'd still want to retain all the content.

But at least they would actually need to pay for the rights to the game broadcasts. Any info on how the ratings/viewership for the games are going this year? I know they were huge in late 2015 and 2016. I would assume pretty low by comparison this year.

The bandwagon fan base doesn't matter in the least. They'll be back as soon as we start winning again.

yeah it matters to the business - the more years with low attendance and TV viewership and corresponding low revenue/value added, the more the corporate suits will say the team can not justify payroll increases. The question is can you start winning again with very low payroll instead of spending money (up front on FAs/veterans) to make money and win. More and more , it seems Rogers has learned nothing and this team needs new ownership who is both shrewd and WANTS to WIN (like Labatts back in the day).

I don't link Shapiro and Atkins as much as everyone else seems to. Shapiro should absolutely be given the choice to replace Ross Atkins if thats the decision he wants to make. Shapiro focus has been more on the Spring Training facility and future renovations for the Rogers Centre. He has appeared to be fairly hands off in this rebuilding process. That may chance once bigger decisions need to be made in terms of being competitive again.

Well Atkins said he believes the Jays will be competitive by 2021, so I guess if the team is still s*** in 2021 he and Shapiro should go.
