But anyway, Monotoyo apparently didn't learn anything while he worked for the Rays and as long as Sogard and Galvis are swinging a hot bat (if that's even a thing) it will work for him but eventually those guys will settle in as the sub-85 wRC+ hitters we know they are.

 

I don't blame Montoyo for hitting Sogard and Galvis at the top while they are hot (although Sogard was placed there before anyone knew he was hot - so you could argue that fairly). I will however be very critical of him if those 2 stay there when they cool off (which is inevitable).

 

I also fully support putting your best hitters at the very top of the lineup. Vlad's hitting #2 for me.

Maybe the Jays have some next level analytics that say we need to bat our best hitter 5th? I mean the book on lineup construction was written 20 years ago and is based on pretty rudimentary linear weights and averages.

If there's one thing Montoyo has shown so far is that he's not afraid to switch the lineup around, feels like it's been different everyday this season.

 

I'm not disagreeing with anyone saying it's a bad decision because I agree with that sentiment. I'm not surprised by it though.

 

If it somehow lasts longer than a week or two then I might start being concerned about it.
