Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2019 Posted April 14, 2019 Not sure why we're celebrating. Surely you all know this means full time Alen Hanson.
BTS Community Moderator Posted April 14, 2019 Posted April 14, 2019 Looking like a bit of a sunk cost right now. Below-average hitter and a complete tire fire at second, and he's 25. Still owed 16M from 2020-23.
Candy Maldonado Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2019 Posted April 14, 2019 what about his bobblehead day?

Still owed 16M from 2020-23. The fact that he's 25 should be a good thing lol. He has stuff to work out but I think he can be a good enough hitter to play at the MLB level. He might be going through the yips with his throwing, but he should have the physical tools to be something like a below average defender which is still playable if the hitting is decent. To call this a sunk cost this early into his career is egregious IMO.

He's not going to play short, and right now the path to being an average 2B defensively is a long one. He'll have to hit a lot to be a useful player if his only defensive utility is as a bad 2B. I feel like asking a a 25-year old to make the kind of gains he has to to be a useful player is a tall order. It's doable, but right now he's a mess.
tercet Verified Member Posted April 14, 2019 Posted April 14, 2019 Good bye have fun the next 4-5 years in the international league/buffalo with rusney castillo

Still owed 16M from 2020-23. Last year he was an obv sunk cost, the only question is now will he play more AAA games then Rusney Castillo? What was that prop bet last year I offered re Gurriel/Castillo, anyone remember? (I honestly forget dont wanna go through a year of posts)
BTS Community Moderator Posted April 14, 2019 Posted April 14, 2019 He's playing about as good as Teoscar, Jansen, Drury and others but if they want to send a message ok. At least Jansen is getting it done defensively. I don't think it's about sending a message so much as it is getting him out of the spotlight to work on his D. He wasn't even comfortable making short throws to 1B with tons of time.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted April 15, 2019 Posted April 15, 2019 He's playing about as good as Teoscar, Drury, Jansen and others and we are only 2 weeks into the season. Seems a bit rash to me. Maybe there is attitude issues (he seems fine to me but I'm not in the clubhouse) or the team simply wants to send a message.

Makes sense but if that's the reasoning why not Teoscar too? It's too soon in the year to do this.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted April 15, 2019 Posted April 15, 2019 Gah I'm on mobile so my posts are showing up weird

The mirage has a better approach, but still flawed, he has shown some improvement this year with his approach, but the results arent their yet, he gets a long leash. Gurribabip has no approach at all, just swing at everything, occasionally pitchers would make mistake pitches then he hits them hard. Gurribabip will never succeed with his current approach vs major league pitching, he needs to double walk rate, or cut k rate in half to have any chance of succeeding.
Barkerfan23 Verified Member Posted April 15, 2019 Posted April 15, 2019 Lol Sogard called up. I guess Shatkins trying desperately to take away any reason at all to tune in
tercet Verified Member Posted April 15, 2019 Posted April 15, 2019 Did AA sign him or Shapiro? Shatkins

Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted April 15, 2019 Posted April 15, 2019 Atta boy Ross, keep it up! Morales LGJ Grichuk next.. If LGJ is Atkins' second biggest mistake then he's doing an excellent job. Don't be obtuse gruber.
SAAviour Verified Member Posted April 15, 2019 Posted April 15, 2019 Lol Sogard called up. I guess Shatkins trying desperately to take away any reason at all to tune in Yup. And who we gonna lose now off the 40...starting to question Atkins slightly now. Brito and Hansen are complete jokes.

Asset management is left to be desired, especially on how he handled the JD situation. C'mon man, Atkins has a failing grade so far. I like Shapiro though, so hopefully he'll realize Atkins is the not the GM that will take the team to a championship. Extending Grichuk without enough evidence to warrant the signing was also idiotic. I see Atkins as a bit of a gambler hoping he hits and comes out looking like he's ahead of the curve. Brito? Hanson? Really?

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted April 15, 2019 Posted April 15, 2019 The Jays front office see Gurriel as a part of the future, for that reason Gurriel was sent to the minors instead of DFA/optioned Brito, Hanson, Teoscar and others. IMO Gurriel is s***. The guy isn't a good hitter and his D is just awful. He's not the freeswinger Astudillo
tbad Verified Member Posted April 15, 2019 Posted April 15, 2019 Just glad I don't have to watch his toddler throws to first base anymore.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted April 15, 2019 Posted April 15, 2019 Why are they so stuck on him being an infielder when the OF situation in the Majors and minors is s***? At this point try him at CF or LF and see what happens. He’s clearly not an infielder.
Barkerfan23 Verified Member Posted April 15, 2019 Posted April 15, 2019 Only other thing I can think off is that they want the first overall pick and tank completely

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted April 15, 2019 Posted April 15, 2019 so who comes off the 40 man? I forgot about that. Sogard wasn't on the 40 man.
