Joe Carter WS Statue Verified Member Posted January 12, 2019 Posted January 12, 2019 Hello everyone! Lifetime Jays fan, new forum member. Happy to be here and wanted to share a simple petition for something that I feel is LONG overdue. We as a fan base are sorely lacking in the honouring of our history as a team and are in desperate need of a great statue for our team to make up for the current monstrosity we are stuck with. Please support the cause and see if we can get any traction on this. If you have any suggestions to make this more well articulated, feel free to voice them. Just looking for the best way to reach a great fan base! Support, share, shred if you must...let me know your thoughts. Looking forward to a solid rebuild with some great looking prospects, but while we wait, let’s get to honouring our past! Look forward to hearing your thoughts, good or bad! Cheers everyone and here’s to a great weekend and a new season a mere few months away! https://www.change.org/p/toronto-blue-jays-build-a-joe-carter-statue?recruiter=928494609&utm_source=share_petition&utm_medium=copylink&utm_campaign=tap_basic_share
TBJ12 Verified Member Posted January 13, 2019 Posted January 13, 2019 I'd be on board with this. People hear don't like Carter but that was one of the biggest homeruns in MLB in history.

Yeah, he was not a great player by our current understanding, but that's easily the most memorable moment in Jays history, and should absolutely be commemorated. For whatever good it will do, I signed the petition.

I don's see my comment though. I guess my name didn't get by the moderation team

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted January 13, 2019 Posted January 13, 2019 I don't see anything wrong with statues that commemorate both historic events - and great franchise players. This would obviously be the former.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted January 13, 2019 Posted January 13, 2019 I think a better thought exercise would be .... if Rogers wanted to erect a statue or statues outside the RC, what players and moments would they want to remind people of? Stieb for his overall greatness and the only no hitter thrown in jays history. Halladay for his overall greatness. Delgado maybe? Fernandez maybe? Carter's home run. Alomar being a hall of famer and his great post season HR - even a perfect pose for that one. Bautista's bat flip Jorge Bell probably as one of the first true Blue Jay stars. Missing anything or anyone egregious?
TheHurl Site Manager Posted January 13, 2019 Posted January 13, 2019 They are starting planning on re-doing the inside of the stadium. Judging by what was done in Cleveland; the Carter Homerun will be part of that. I don't want to see a bunch of statues around the outside though. Plus I like group statues. Have WAMCO instead of Carter on his own. Then Moseby, Barfield and Bell (one of the top 20 OF's of all time and the Jays best). Stieb and his ego, Bautista and his bat flip, Donaldson and his refusing to do his rehab. So many potential memories. But put them around the stadium. We've seen concrete walls for too long.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted January 13, 2019 Posted January 13, 2019 Tony Fernandez, Jimmy Key, Tom Henke are 3 others for consideration

Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted January 13, 2019 Posted January 13, 2019 Blocking Wamco is one of the better decisions I've made.
wamco Verified Member Posted January 13, 2019 Posted January 13, 2019 I wish that was true. I’ve asked you to do so for years over multiple forums but you are obsessed with me

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted January 14, 2019 Posted January 14, 2019 I would be fine with a Joe Carter statue. Most importantly the Stadium is finally getting some much needed renovations. I'm looking forward to seeing how it looks under Shapiro's vision because right now its an eyesore.

Missing anything or anyone egregious? The Alomar "double arms" pose after the HR off Eck would be a classic as well - and probably 1 or 1A on the best options. A statue of Doc would round out the top 3 IMO.
Laika Community Moderator Posted January 14, 2019 Posted January 14, 2019 I think we should build a statue of Russell Martin so Danny Jansen will always have his positive influence there. Use the $3.6M saved in the trade to make it real nice
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted January 14, 2019 Posted January 14, 2019 Build it......................and they will come
