Not sure if this was posted but it's worth a discussion if not.

For the first time in like 50 years have starters posted a lower ERA than relievers in a month. 4.34 for starters and 4.39 for relievers.

Wow that's interesting. Any reason why that could be?

Shorter outings (avoiding 3rd time through the order) for starters, combined with higher usage for relievers - combined with good old fashion luck would be my guess.

I thought that was a decent read.

One issue I see is the Jays have a lot of guys who are free swingers [Randel, Teo, Drury, Galvis, Urena, Gurriel, McKinney (the version we got it seems)]. It seemed at the time that as long as they hit the ball hard - they could still produce and it didn't matter that they had no eye at the plate.

However, as pitchers continue to improve - this could be a pretty significant issue for these types of hitters...they may fall behind as hitters with more patient lay off the increase/improved offspeed pitches and make pitchers bring the ball in the zone where they can handle it.

Rays putting up a 2.04 ERA from their starters helps, and the O's starters were Horrible but their relievers were worse in the same number of innings.

I can't extract monthly data for past years from Fangraphs. I can tell you that in April Starters had 4623 innings pitched and relievers were 3140 for a 55/45 split. In 2010 it was a 67/33 split and I'm sure if you go back 40 years it's closer to 75/25

Red Sox atrocious SP can't even help with this odd month of SP/RP stats

Rick Porcello 5.52

Eduardo Rodriguez 6.16

Chris Sale 6.30

Nathan Eovaldi 6.00

David Price 3.60

That's just a heaping stinky mess apart from Price being a little better than league average

Folks, that's a 103.3 Million dollar rotation right there ^

Porcelo 21M

Price 31M

Sale 30M

Rodriguez 4.3M

Eovaldi 17M

I don't imagine Cora likes having to bat his speedy CF 8th in the lineup

What lucky bastard has Cody Bellinger in the LOD?

Insane month of April. 431/.508/.890 slash line, with 14 home runs

My calculator can't calculate that high of an OPS

Now that he's got his power back, he's probably going to be pretty damn close to Joey Votto as a hitter.

What a guy

These pitches are all ridiculous. Poor Edwin.

If only Dillon Maples could throw strikes. He throws that slider 60+% of the time...might might explain his 10+ BB%.

Has anyone else heard this crap about Felipe Vazquez and his sister? What the hell is going on here?

It came up around the time he changed his name but I can't recall any specifics now.

This is from a Pirates fan on Reddit:

Weird s***. Weird weird s***. We joke about him smashing his sister a lot but we legit don’t know what’s actually going on. He got a tattoo of her stylized as the Virgin Mary. And he’s like always with her. It’s really weird.

Like literally 90% of his IG posts involve her and we didn’t really know he was his sister before the name change, until he posted like 1 Instagram post like “happy birthday to my wife” and everyone was like WTF
