G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 2, 2019 Posted April 2, 2019 Nice opportunity for Tampa to get out in front of the division at the moment
TheHurl Site Manager Posted April 2, 2019 Posted April 2, 2019 Yankees have 85M worth of payroll on the injured list and one isn't Tulo
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2019 Posted April 2, 2019 They are both on my garbage LOD team so yes, I saw. I'm not talking about stats though - I'm looking at Urias' stuff. Sitting 95 (touching 97) from the left side with that off speed stuff and that command - it's bonkers. I stayed up to watch this game. Was not disappointed.
Ray Verified Member Posted April 2, 2019 Posted April 2, 2019 Acuna close to signing an extension with the Braves. 8 years $100M with 2 options.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2019 Posted April 2, 2019 Elite players still get paid in MLB. Acuna probably cost himself at least a hundred million, if not more by signing this. He could have made $50-60m just in arb, and then hit free agency in his mid 20's.

TheHurl Site Manager Posted April 2, 2019 Posted April 2, 2019 I'd give Vlad an identical deal right now if he'd sign it There are so many comparables right now that you have to figure that it's Vlad that doesn't want to talk extension.
Laika Community Moderator Posted April 2, 2019 Posted April 2, 2019 I stayed up to watch this game. Was not disappointed. *stayed up drinking and realized the game was on, you mean?
glory Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2019 Posted April 2, 2019 His deal includes this year. So not an additional 8 years. But two options so pretty much all of his 20’s for $124 million. If he went to arb every year then he would have been a free agent at age 27. I think he definitely lost money here. But $100 mil is $100 mil. No way Vlad signs a deal like that. He will bet on himself and assuming he stays healthy will get $200-300 mil easy if he’s as good as everyone projects.
Laika Community Moderator Posted April 2, 2019 Posted April 2, 2019 The two team options at the end of Acuna's extension are unconscionable and I can only assume Acuna agreed to them under duress.

Offer that to Vlad and he'd laugh in their faces. Acuna either has a bad agent or came from nothing and wanted to get the cash right away.

He is from Venezuela so you can assume he comes from less than nothing (socialism).
devo Verified Member Posted April 2, 2019 Posted April 2, 2019 Is Passan's math wrong? $100 million + two $17 million options is $134 million.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2019 Posted April 2, 2019 Is Passan's math wrong? $100 million + two $17 million options is $134 million. Well, he's posting guaranteed cash, you can't assume team options.

That makes more sense then. He makes $130+ mil in his 20's, might still get another much smaller deal in his 30's, and support himself/family for a long time. Happy for him in that case. Protects himself in case of injury, decline, etc. Vlad signed for millions and had a millionaire HOF father. He's not giving anyone a discount.
Ray Verified Member Posted April 2, 2019 Posted April 2, 2019 Great starters are signing for pennies on the dollar. Part of me is hoping we extend Stroman.
Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2019 Posted April 2, 2019 Good on the Rockies for locking up a probable elite starter.
BTS Community Moderator Posted April 3, 2019 Posted April 3, 2019 Chris Sale sitting 88-91 in Oakland.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2019 Posted April 3, 2019 Chris Sale sitting 88-89 tonight, T91. Yikes.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2019 Posted April 3, 2019 Sale at 89 to 91 isn't nearly as scary.

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2019 Posted April 3, 2019 I hate Dennis Eckersley so f***ing much. Holy Christ he's hard to listen to. Everything is hair, cheese, cookie, "he lost it," "he went bridge!" f***ing jackass.
