Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted March 10, 2019 Posted March 10, 2019 I hate that I view the site all of the time for statistics because I don't wanna support the BS social agenda that they're desperately pushing. It's hard to understand why they're entwining all of this other BS with a sports site. Too bad you can't have Barstool sports with the FG data...

He can rot on a s***** rebuilding team.

Bud's making the team. That contract looks like a formality. The Jays will put him on the roster the moment they can 60 day DL someone to open up a spot. Norris signing with a team that plays in a country other than 'Merica, has a Latin manager, and whose best player (even though he has no big league experience) is a Latin ROOKIE seems to imply that maybe he realizes he F'ed up in the past. Either that or no other team wanted to go anywhere near him. Maybe both.

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted March 11, 2019 Posted March 11, 2019 Fly balls and line drive outs at the warning track are extremely fun! We need more pitchers like Josh Towers who pitch to hard contact. Makes that game more interesting. Great example. I mean I could counter that and say watching Greg Maddux or Doc Halladay pitch to contact used to be extremely entertaining too...
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted March 11, 2019 Posted March 11, 2019 (edited) Agreed Watching Szherzer paint the corner for a beautiful called strike 3 or watching Chapman blow away three straight and strike out the side is beautiful. More routine ground balls and lazy flies is not the recipe for more excitement I agree. Max, Chapman - exciting to watch. Watching Tepera and other fastball/slider pitchers strike out a guy an inning isn't exciting (to me). Not all K's are made equal, just like not all defensive plays are made equal. Routine grounders and lazy flies aren't fun...but diving plays, slick double plays, etc. are. We have way more talent/athleticism in the game then we did 10-15 years ago. I want to see it utilized. Personally, I think it slows down the pace when there aren't balls put in play. Pace and speeding up the game go hand in hand IMO. It's like in basketball - teams have increased the pace, more shot attempts per game - it's more exciting. Fewer strikeouts probably means fewer pitches, which means the game moves along quicker and there's more action. Edited March 11, 2019 by Brownie19

No more shortstop. 3 infielders, 3 outfielders, Pitcher Catcher and 2 DHs. Not remotely serious, but it would accomplish the goal of fewer routine plays.

connorp Old-Timey Member Posted March 12, 2019 Posted March 12, 2019 I was just reading an article about Bregman being disappointed in his salary and I was surprised on the GM response: GM Jeff Luhnow defended the decision, saying “That’s just the nature of our industry right now.” Which is not a defense of the nature of the industry right now, of course. It’s merely an acknowledgment that, when a player has zero leverage, he’s going to be paid far, far less than his production is worth and that teams will, quite happily, take advantage of that fact. Seems kind of blunt/matter-of-fact. You’d think he’d just kind of skirt around it by saying precedent or something
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted March 12, 2019 Posted March 12, 2019 Alex Reyes may start the season in the bullpen Is he going to throw even harder out of the bullpen?
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted March 12, 2019 Posted March 12, 2019 I was just reading an article about Bregman being disappointed in his salary What a f***ing ****. Did Bregman's agent never explain the CBA and how arbitration and free agency works? You get paid the minimum til arbitration, deal with it. Jackass. You want more? Sign a long-term extension. There is no middle ground.

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted March 12, 2019 Posted March 12, 2019 Your vitriol for this pleases me greatly. I'm getting really sick and tired of superstar players and the union complaining about being poor. Bregman got a motherf***ing $5.9M signing bonus and gets paid $500k per year to play baseball. Most of the people in this forum will never even make half of that in a year. As soon as he gets to arb he's going to be making 8 figures, even if he never signs a long-term extension for some reason. Who the f*** does he think he is?

Wait your turn to get paid like everyone else. He's not special. Even Mike Trout doesn't get to bypass the system.

It’s absolutely understandable he is pissed off at a raise of $40,000 after the season he just had.

Not only does he get a huge signing bonus, he's going to be making boatloads of money very soon in arb and FA. It's the Kevin Pillars who should be complaining, if anything. The players who don't get big bonuses, the players whose skillsets don't get rewarded in arbitration, the players who get chewed up and spit out for their cheap productive years and then struggle to find big league jobs. Alex Bregman doesn't have a damn thing to complain about.
