this post seems racist, Jim!

Not at all. Take any peasant, regardless of race, and give them a rich and pampered lifestyle, or stick them behind a desk all day, and you get a vlad.

Proof? Take a walk outside.

Nah, I don't think it applies to old money people.

Jim, what in the f*** are you talking about?

Old money refers to families that have been rich for hundreds of years. Sufficient time for a genetic difference from the peasant class, and less susceptibility for weight gain from a sedentary lifestyle.

I don’t think this is actually a thing that has been demonstrated, but even granting it, wouldn’t Vlad have the “doesn’t come from old money” factor in common with almost every player in professional baseball?

Yes, but few grew up rich and pampered to the extent Vlad was. Vlad never had to work, as his forebears did, unless playing baseball is work. His gut is a product of genes ill equipped for a leisurely lifestyle and grandma's cooking.

"Vladimir Guerrero Sr. grew up not far from his current palatial digs in a tiny house made of mud brick and originally roofed with palm leaves."

Take a kid who's forebears all grew up poor, having to work hard, and with little food, and give that kid a pampered lifestyle with plenty of food, the end result is predictable.

For those of you who are bitching about Vlad's weight, remember that even as a small child he's always had a bit of a freakish build. So unless you guys have performed a body fat percentage (BFP) test on Vladdie lately, you have absolutely no idea if that weight he's carrying is mostly muscle or mostly fat

Lmao

Has anyone taken Vlad’s BFP? Anyone?!

Thanks for putting your fictional medical term into an acronym for us

Are you really this stupid?? There is nothing fictional about it.

Read and learn something: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Body_fat_percentage

You can measure BFP by using a simple device called a "Skin Fold Caliper"

Or you can use hydrostatic weighing method or dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry.

Skin Fold Caliper is the simple way though

Yup, looks like all muscle to me guys. This is the ideal male athlete body in its physical peak. I'm not sure Vladdy's body fat % could go any lower without posing a massive risk to his health.

Have a look at Cecil and Prince Fielder, they were not exactly skinny guys either, and yet they went on to have very successfull careers at 1B and at the plate

It would suck if Vladdy Jr has a shortened career like those two

I'm legit embarrassed at the thought of a new poster reading the last two pages of this thread.

McKinney starting in LF instead of Fisher tonight. Damn, Montoyo's cycle of new players everyday is really annoying.

Both Cecil and Prince played for about 12 seasons, thats twice the MLB average

Yup.. Fisher has the obvious higher upside and needs consistent playing time. The asset handling has been horrible. Atkins needs to let go of McKinney for a while and give Fisher every day ABs, especially with Gurriel out.

Holy f*** you can't win with you guys. Fisher has gotten plenty of PT, let McKinney get a start in, you'll probably see the latter pinch hit later on anyway.

You guys need to relax with the attacks, it's getting old.

That would be cool if McKinney wasn't already a proven pos.

Is he now? The 24 year old with less than 100 career MLB games and has hit at every stop in the minors is a proven POS?

Who has the higher upside, McKinney or Fisher?
