BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted June 28, 2019 Posted June 28, 2019 I thought Jonah Keri was better than this That’s what I thought when I read it. He is a stat head. Usually like his takes but wasn’t sure about all of this one. Watching his interview on Sportsnet over this now. Jansen worst hitter in league (min abs) so says he.

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2019 Posted June 29, 2019 Fangraphs has Jansen as the 6th best framer this season providing roughly half of his defensive value: Link So Keri is full of s***? noice.

Why not DH him? Because if you DH him and he goes 2 for 4 or 3 for 4, he's not exactly getting a days rest. There's also batting practice DH's have to show up for around 4pm. Guys that have off-days usually dont show up for BP

Injuries are going to happen no matter how much you baby a player, if he's healthy put him in the f***ing lineup. The one thing I dislike about this FO is the way they baby potential stars. Pearson is getting the pitching version of the Vlad treatment.

Meh, I'd rather them baby him a little if that's what their high performance department or other analysis is telling them is best, rather than bow to public pressure.

Think back to when you were young, would you have liked to have to work 7 days a week for 6 months straight??

Baseball players work hard, get paid millions and have between 3-5 months of holidays per year. I doubt Vlad is a big fan of his "maintenance" days.

Let’s see 19-20 , 500,000 , play baseball for 7 days for six months and off for six months Who does not sign up for that deal ??? What kinda Silver spoon slack ass lazy but bubble boy where you ... Baseball players work hard, get paid millions and have between 3-5 months of holidays per year. I doubt Vlad is a big fan of his "maintenance" days Well.....they get 4 league scheduled off-days per month usually. If you think thats enough, even for a 20-year old, I have to disagree. That means they have to work 26 to 27 days per month. That'll get even a 20-year old a bit tired, and once they get fatigued they start producing less, so its counter-productive really

I do agree with you that they are babying players way to much, but to be fair athletes don’t just take the offseason off. They still need to train and the ones that don’t it usually shows when they have a s***** year. And lots of them do promotional and charity work for the team in the offseason.

BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted July 1, 2019 Posted July 1, 2019 Sanchez to the BP please. He has no trade value right now. Maybe he can have some there. He will have zero value regardless what happens this year. No contender in their right mind would give up assets for Sanchez, both health and performance reasons. It's looking either like a 2020 July trade or a comp pick at this point. If that would be the best case scenario, good riddance.

And lots of them do promotional and charity work for the team in the offseason They do a lot of promotional and charity work on their off-days during the regular season as well. I have to laugh at people who think a ballplayers season is easy. It is not nearly as easy as they think. First of all they dont work just a few hours a day. They have to get to the ballpark around 3pm or so, take BP, take fielding practice....etc. Then its gametime around 7pm, games usually last between 2.5 to 3.5 hours (obviously longer if it goes extra innings), then after the game sometimes interviews, showering....etc. By the time they leave the ballpark its around 11pm or midnight. So their workday is between 3pm and midnight. Thats around 8 to 9 hours, which is what regular people work as well. Now try doing that 6 days a week. It gets tiring

I mean, he's had about the worst possible year he could possibly have had, and even with the 3-4 inning stretches where he's looked amazing, he's had enough complete melt-downs that it's destroyed 100% of his value.
