Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted April 15, 2019 Posted April 15, 2019 Based on his diet - Vlady has made his decision on where he wants to play...and it's not 3rd base. You are preaching to the choir, and also a guy who has zero involvement in the decision.. I 100% agree with you... I think the Jays do have to walk a fine line though...

Or Maybe make him the First ever Full time DH from Start to Finish in MLB Cause Face it really it is his Bat not his on field play that will define his career !!!
Stoneyen Verified Member Posted April 16, 2019 Posted April 16, 2019 Still very confused why Dwight Smith Jr. couldn't make the roster but Shatkins is fine with f***ing Brito and Hansen playing everyday.
5ToolPhenom Verified Member Posted April 16, 2019 Posted April 16, 2019 Hell, Mckinney's stats in the minors really weren't all that better than DSJ's
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted April 16, 2019 Posted April 16, 2019 Hell, Mckinney's stats in the minors really weren't all that better than DSJ's He's a full two years younger and put up the same numbers or better at every level. That's rather significant for comparing their talent levels.
BTS Community Moderator Posted April 16, 2019 Posted April 16, 2019 You guys remember when Goins got a few hits early for KC and everyone here started bitching about Shatkins letting him go, then it turned out that Ryan Goins f***ing sucks? That’s what’s going to happen with DSJ.

Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted April 16, 2019 Posted April 16, 2019 The only complaint about Goins was that he wasn't gone sooner.

McKinney no doubt edges him out as the superior piece, my point is with McKinney getting such a look, there should have been room for Smith Jr on the roster too. Not a big deal, but all the more confusing when guys like Brito are seeing so much playing time.

Socrates Brito is most likely a better baseball player than Dwight Smith Jr., and they're both probably awful baseball players at the MLB level so it's completely irrelevant if DSJ is the slightly better piece of s***. He is not worth losing sleep over, he wasn't going to be on this team in the future, and very likely neither will Brito.

He sucks, hes just another random 300obp hacker, I agree DS isn't sexy, but he isn't swinging for the fences, and has a legit approach that has produced so far in 3 seasons in the majors.

Jonathan Davis got hurt as did Dalton Pompey, DSJ traded for 500 grand in international money was a decent deal, Pillar traded, FO doesn't care about this season, looking to see if they have something in Brito or Hanson doesn't seem like a big deal, blame it on injuries to Travis/Davis and Pompey. They'll(Brito and Hanson) be gone soon enough, as there rope is likely diminishing, quickly.

Barkerfan23 Verified Member Posted April 16, 2019 Posted April 16, 2019 Dsj is not a good hitter but the comparison to Goins is ridiculous In 167 at bats he has a wrc of 117.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted April 16, 2019 Posted April 16, 2019 It was a cool mil. beat me to it P2F - we actually got some thing for DSJ...maybe that's why we traded him guys?

glory Old-Timey Member Posted April 16, 2019 Posted April 16, 2019 I thought Morales was $1m and DSJ was $500k?

That’s what’s going to happen with DSJ. That's a stupid comparison. Maybe DSJ isn't going to work out for the Orioles, I'd say there's a decent chance, but he's not Goins. One of those two guys consistently hit decently in the minors and posted good walk rates. And over his last two seasons has continued to not strike out at a pretty good rate with his AB's in the majors.
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted April 16, 2019 Posted April 16, 2019 I don't remember that because it didn't happen! Yes, it did. It was mostly the board's casuals that were upset, but there was a considerable contingent here that was despaired by this move and validated their opinions with Goins' relatively hot start.
King Old-Timey Member Posted April 16, 2019 Posted April 16, 2019 DSJs defense will make or break his career. It's pretty obvious that he can hit at least a league average rate at this point. I think he could be a fringe regular. The K rate is really good. Not losing sleeping over it though.

You can have a plus glove and a terrible bat (Goins), an average bat and bad corner OF defense (DSJ), or any number of other combinations. The point is that I don't think anyone is complaining about DSJ a month or two from now.

He's a left-handed Teoscar Hernandez, only you can't quite dream on a breakout in the same way because Teoscar has huge power and Smith doesn't.

But agree....
