This broadcast was pretty old school but didn't feel at all recalcitrant towards analytics and the modern game of baseball, Bob Costas' voice is very soothing and he's a professional throughout. Take notes Matt Vasgersian.

I've seen an interview with Costas where he says that he intentionally dumbs down his broadcasts. But he's a pretty forward guy. IIRC he's referenced Fangraphs before.

Flying to Milwaukee this weekend to catch Game 1 and 2 of the NLCS. Hopefully its against the Dodgers. Never been to Miller Park, but the atmosphere for a postseason game should be electric. Has anyone ever been to see a game in Milwaukee before?

Yes, my favorite stadium of all I have been to.

 

Not much directly around the stadium, but they tailgate for baseball like an NFL game.

 

Great atmosphere and should be rockin for a playoff game.

Yeah the ballpark is outside of the city, but like you said there's a huge parking lot all around and I was thinking that some tailgating does go on before any postseason game.

 

Most bars downtown I heard offer shuttles to Miller Park on game-day.

That's the thing with National broadcasts for any sport, but especially baseball.

 

They have to be aware that the vast majority if their audience are people who think speedy slap hitters, wins for pitchers, and stuff like RBIs are important so they have to hire people that are capable of dumbing everything down to the lowest common denominator

 

 

Side Story, was at family's house for Thanksgiving dinner last night and we started playing this game Anomia, basic gist of the game is that people flip over cards with symbols and a random category on them and when 2 people's symbols match, the first person to name something in the other persons category wins their card.

 

So, I flip a card, it matches someone else, and my caRd said "a unit of weight" and their card said "German city" so they said 'kilogram' just before I said "Berlin"... and they took my card. I said hang on, a kilogram isnt a unit of weight and they all looked at me like I had 4 heads. It wasn't until they actually agreed to Google it that they realized I wasn't the idiot.

 

Apparantly there's a lot of people out there that think mass and weight are the same thing.

Also this is a country where a percentage of football fans stopped watching the NFL because of kneeling. It's going to take a while before they mess with baseball broadcasts.
