Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted January 12, 2019 Posted January 12, 2019 I don't really understand why they didn't just non tender Travis. Why? He's under control and has options.
DigitalRock Old-Timey Member Posted January 12, 2019 Posted January 12, 2019 If Stro and Sanchez don't rebound this pitching staff has the look of a dumpster fire. I think Stro has a chance to rebound....Sanchez not so much.
BTS Community Moderator Posted January 12, 2019 Author Posted January 12, 2019 (edited) The team needs to acquire a MLB-caliber infielder who can play short. Urena likely makes the team as it currently is, and there isn't another shortstop on the 40-man aside from Gurriel. Spending a bit of cash on Asdrubal Cabrera makes a lot of sense. They had one in Diaz, but something obviously went awry with Tulo.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted January 12, 2019 Posted January 12, 2019 Yeah Diaz would be a great fit for this roster right now. Hopefully Thornton turns out to be good.

I am very uncomfortable with this infield depth chart: Lourdes - SS Travis - 2B Drury - 2B/3B ^ These guys are all very real flop candidates and we don't even really know if Drury can competently play 2B, or 3B, or whatever. Urena - BN - horrendous projections. I wonder if the team thinks he is a plus SS or something. Sogard - NRI (not on 40) - probably better than Urena lol Bo Espinal Smith Biggio ^ all not really ready to provide depth in 2019 Team is set up well for 2020 depth but it's gross right now and it keeps me up at night.

Play or Cover if need be ??? Not sure what the asking price difference or contacts would shake out to be but I still think Marwin Gonzales would be a nice pick up For this team and with its uncertainties at Several positions and possible trades leading up too or during the season !
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted January 12, 2019 Posted January 12, 2019 i wonder what prospects the angels would be willing to include in a Pujols for Smoak deal? nvm - full no trade

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted January 12, 2019 Posted January 12, 2019 Still some middle infielders available on the FA market who you might be able to get on a reasonable 1-2 year deal: Asdrubal Cabrera (maybe Shapiro and Atkins can lure him to sign here since they know him well during his time in Cleveland) Freddy Galvis (would be a decent stopgap for a year who can provide between 1-2 WAR and wouldn't cost much) Marwin Gonzalez (I still see him getting a multi-year deal somewhere from a contender but if he still is on the market a week or two before ST, might be able to get him on a 1-year deal). Sean Rodriguez (nice guy for depth and can play all around. Can crush LHP and always has loved hitting at the Rogers Centre).
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted January 12, 2019 Posted January 12, 2019 i wonder what prospects the angels would be willing to include in a Pujols for Smoak deal? nvm - full no trade I keep coming Back to Houston for trade partner in a deal for that and more , maybe a mega deal clearing the house and the Deck of those in one shot ... even though mega deals do not happen and the board frowns on them In general .

Who are the overpaid has beens on the 'stros?
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted January 12, 2019 Posted January 12, 2019 Not sure if overpaid or has been just more a match wants needs and based on where both teams are at in there compete levels !
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted January 12, 2019 Posted January 12, 2019 Not sure if overpaid or has been just more a match wants needs and based on where both teams are at in there compete levels ! Dunno about that. There are only a handful of Jays that would be an upgrade for the 'stros, and a couple of them are off limits. Jays have a lot of s*** on the 40 man.
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted January 12, 2019 Posted January 12, 2019 Say start with morales smoak pillar and malie Pay down morales in full 12 mill For Gurriel reunite with his brother, Robinson Chirinos and Myles Straw all and all they save 2 mill on the Deal ! Now if they and the Jays wanna go nuts And full bore Mega Deal add ten mill to the deal and add Stroman,Sanchez, Giles and tepera for Whitley and Perez which I believe only adds around 7-8 mill to astros payroll And Saves the jays that or more as well

BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted January 12, 2019 Posted January 12, 2019 (edited) there are roster limits, man Yes this is True But Really it only means they are trying to find spots for Four on the Forty man !!! And they Still are looking for pitching and and a DH or powerbat so I think they have ummm the wiggle room for it easy enough to do or make them fit ! Or we Remove Tepera and they only need 3 Doubt either way he is the deal breaker or they return one not as good to us of there roster done and done ... easy !!! Edit : just looked They can add Will Harris If roster spots is a issue and even if Tepera Wins arbitration 1.8 they would save another 2 mill in the Swap ! Seems like a no brainer to bring back a cheap, reasonably useful player that wants to be here, at a position where we're thin.

P2F Old-Timey Member Posted January 13, 2019 Posted January 13, 2019 Perfect, sign me up for Axford, then.
Laika Community Moderator Posted January 13, 2019 Posted January 13, 2019 I wouldn’t give him an MLB deal and I doubt he’ll get one

He was serviceable for us and the stuff was still filthy, I'd welcome a reunion if we have the space for him.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted January 13, 2019 Posted January 13, 2019 Minor league invite would be a no brainer.
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted January 13, 2019 Posted January 13, 2019 I think we could do better than Axford or at least find a younger guy to give a chance to. I would do a minor league deal with an invite to spring training. Might of painted Atkins in the corner with the casuals. I can already see it on Twitter.
