Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted August 12, 2018 Posted August 12, 2018 Time to move on from Kevin Pillar. It was time to do that 2 years ago when he still had value.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted August 12, 2018 Posted August 12, 2018 It was time to do that 2 years ago when he still had value. He never had value as a trade chip. Defense only CFs do not get anything via trade since they can easily be signed via FA for cheap, or a cheap version brought up from the minors at pretty much anytime.
wk680 Verified Member Posted August 12, 2018 Posted August 12, 2018 Let's see if Giles can actually get a save in a pressure situation. I guess it was a bit of a pressure situation (trying to avoid being swept at home by a mediocre team). Giles is now a perfect 13 for 13 in save opportunities this season. But here is the bizarre part: 12.2 ip combined in those 13 saves and ZERO runs allowed. In 22.2 ip this season in non-save situations he has given up 24 earned runs.

Pillar is more valuable to the team he's on than as a trade chip. Even at his peak WAR that was the case. Players who can't hit but play great D are not very attractive trade pieces. The Jays would have gotten something for him, but not any top prospects. In the off season I said trade Pillar to Texas for Profar and a prospect and got roasted for it. Now Profar is up to a 2.3 WAR and 107 wrc+ while Pillar is the same old dude but with regressing D. This is what happens when you don't take my trade proposals seriously.

Your first paragraph agrees that he isn't worth trade value, then goes on to say why he should have been traded for something of value even though your first statement says he wouldn't be worth something of value. Not sure what side you're on here. Also, just because you suggest a trade of X for X, then one X gets hurt and the other X does well, doesn't mean anything. I've suggested trading for Trout many times and still the Jays don't listen. Don't they get that he's pretty Good?

Not sure how trading Pillar for Profar and a prospect meant that Pillar had a ton of value. It was buying really low on a young infielder whose stock had plummeted while selling an outfielder before his defence evaporated. if we traded Pillar for Aledmys Diaz prior to this season I probably would have been ok with it, but thankfully the Cards traded him for s*** instead. It means everything man. Listen to my trade suggestions. Profar, Tony Kemp....everyone I suggest turns out great. It's a gift.
