Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted August 9, 2018 Posted August 9, 2018 WTF does that Segui play where the ball wasn't visible to anybody on the field have to do with a ball that bounced six inches in front of home plate? Bad umpiring? Lmfao, wasn't that obvious? Jesus, I imagine you never grasped connect the dots in kindergarten.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted August 9, 2018 Posted August 9, 2018 Bad umpiring? Lmfao, wasn't that obvious? Jesus, I imagine you never grasped connect the dots in kindergarten. My point was that you could give the umps the benefit of the doubt on the Segui play where the ball wasn't visible and no instant replay yet. The foul tip that bounced six inches in front of home plate is inexcusable. Still no comment on the confrontational aspect that's ruining the game?

Bad calls happen literally all the time and have been happening throughout the history of the sport. Just because you fell easily for recency bias doesn't mean umpiring is any worse than it's always been.

Avoid anything relevant and pile on the sauce. I guess you're right, old people are just plain dumb.

I agree with you on the confrontational aspect, although it feels like that hasn't been nearly as bad this year as it was the past few (and is really limited to a handful of umps). The strike zone has gotten dramatically better since pitchfx, although there's obviously still room for improvement. Other types of calls are probably the same as they've always been.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 9, 2018 Posted August 9, 2018 I didn't think it was possible for Biagini to raise his ERA. He continues to impress with me how bad he could possibly be.

It would be awesome if Buck & Tabby could take a year off from telling the causals that Pillar is an improved, more mature hitter who's worked hard to take more walks and swing at better pitches (when he's on a hot streak).
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 10, 2018 Posted August 10, 2018 2 WAR CF for 3.2 Million, I must be a casual?
glory Old-Timey Member Posted August 10, 2018 Posted August 10, 2018 Damn GIbby take Borucki out of the game already. 105 pitches through 5 innings. A win for the starter when the games are meaningless isn't that important.
vdubmvp Old-Timey Member Posted August 10, 2018 Posted August 10, 2018 Here comes Buck to complain about this aspect of replay.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted August 10, 2018 Posted August 10, 2018 Your fastball is in the upper 90's but let's go with the breaking ball 3-2 that's been pure garbage lately. Pure genius.

gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted August 10, 2018 Posted August 10, 2018 He's literally gotten all of his strikeouts on sliders but okay. It's also the pitch that's been crushed lately but ok. Way to campaign the fact that a breaking ball is the pitch of choice over an upper 90's fastball.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted August 10, 2018 Posted August 10, 2018 It's also the pitch that's been crushed lately but ok. You're right, he should just throw fastballs every time. Works for Aaron Sanchez right?
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted August 10, 2018 Posted August 10, 2018 You're right, he should just throw fastballs every time. Works for Aaron Sanchez right? Where the f*** did i say he should throw a fastball everytime? Up by four runs with two out in the ninth with a 3-2 count, Giles throws a breaking ball that's been inconsistent to say the least since coming here. Giles should be working on locating his upper 90's fastball, which is the best pitch in baseball and always will be. That Betts AB was the perfect time to do that. I don't exactly know wtf you're talking about.

Batters this year vs Giles fastball: .393 average, 186 wRC+ Batters this year vs Giles slider: .179 average, 57 wRC+ He chose right, Betts is just insane.

All the more reason he should be working on locating his fastball and that was the perfect scenario to do so. So should he throw sliders everytime since the league only has a 57 wRC+ against it?
