It’s a subject to discuss on a message board when the current lineup is already out of the playoff race.

What’s gonna happen with Tulo? He’s on the books for 20 million in 2019 and 14 million in 2020. Someone mentioned Morales isn’t going away next year. Won’t Tulo be here too?

I would be shocked if Tulo played another game for the Jays. They are probably just going to eat the remainder of his deal. And honestly the jury is out on wether he will healthy for next spring training. His career might be over for all we know. It would be nice if you could collect some kind of injury insurance if players just can’t play anymore. But the Mets have been paying David Wright a lot to not play Baseball for 4 or 5 years.

I think the type of people here who are upset about the deal has made me feel even better about it.

Why is everyone trying to twist this into something it's not... this is a brutal bad trade. We're getting a whole lot of nothing for Happ. Worst possible trade deadline imaginable.

To get Drury, who's under team control for four more years and still has more upside with the bat that he hasn't yet shown at the MLB level, and a decent prospect in Billy McKinney for three months of JA Happ is a job very well done by Shatkins. To say otherwise is not giving them enough credit.

I know that people wanted the high-upside lottery tickets in the lower levels of the minors (Medina, Contreras, Gil, Garcia, etc.), myself included, but we don't even know if the Yankees were willing to make them available. The Yankees know what they have in those guys, they know how successful their pitching development program has been in recent years, and they know that they probably want to hang on to those guys at all costs - not just give them away for control of an asset for three months.

Drury and McKinney are a nice return. Honestly, it's one of the more favourable returns we've seen yet this deadline. It may lack upside, but there's at least a relatively high floor here with a decent chance for more if the Jays can coax it out of Drury and McKinney.

You seem to be the only person doing that.

Just wait until we trade Donaldson to the Braves in a 3 way trade with the Rangers and we only get Fartolo in return

Yeah, just look at that haul that Cole Hamels returned!

The issue here is we are only seeing the end result (X for Y) and have absolutely no idea on what was on the plate for the Blue Jays to pick from.

If we knew, and there was a prospect from another system or Yankees themselves who would have fit our repertoire better, then sure you can adamantly claim this was a worse (not bad) trade. But we don't, and suffice to say, we have to accept that what we got was the best we could for Happ. Maybe they could have been more creative, but time was running out and they needed to move him for something.

We could have traded him at the start of the trade window when his value was the highest, and perhaps got a better return. But Shatkins took a gamble to increase his value over the next 2 or 3 starts, where Happ (unfortunately) blew himself up. Imagine if he did not and produced consistently sharp #s, well his value would be higher than it was at the start of July and we could've aimed for a blockbuster deal.

Finally, why are people set on throwing Drury/McKinnel under the bus? Prospects/players *can* get better (Bautista for example, clearly). We have good years of control on these two young guys, and they have as much upside as downside. It isn't like we are going to be competing next year (or the year after that). If these guys can provide even a bit of consistency of being an average/above average player, we can leverage them for pieces in another trade or, who knows, maybe they'll fit well in to the system.

It’s exactly a year today since Tulo played for us, with still no word on when (if) he’ll be back.

Drury being in the deal will look a lot better if we trade Solarte for prospects.

I really hope this is the next domino to fall. I don't even care about the return.

His numbers are in complete free fall and his advanced numbers are awful. I would take a lottery ticket for him. I can see them keeping him for the 5.5 million option and trying to trade him next year before they have to make a decision on the 8.5 one. But I would rather they just move him now. We just have way to many players for 2 spots. We can only pray that we can trade some of this glut for pitching.

His lack of hustle really bugs me too. He looks like he's moving in slow motion on the bases.

Its true that he never runs hard to first on ground balls. And I thought there was more than one situation where he could have reached first base and didn't due to lack of hustle. But hes also just really slow. So when you combine being really slow with lack of hustle its a nightmare combination on the bases.

Sadly that's his top end speed.

Many in this thread were clamouring to have Giovanny Gallegos to be a big part of this trade and the Yankees traded him to St. Louis for very little. We surely could have had him if we were at all interested. I'm curious to see how he does with the Cards.

So you're saying Solarte has some value? That's news to me.

They got 1 million in international bonus money which allows them to sign a top pitching prospect. Voit is no slouch either. Doubt we'd have been able to meet their need if they were shopping Gallegos and Shreve for international bonus money.

I think Gallegos was the third piece in the proposed deal you're talking about after Drury and Roancy Contreras.

A 27 year old 1B with no track record of success in the majors is hardly my idea of valuable. Most teams have one of those guys.

It's also highly doubtful that they were shopping Gallegos specifically for bonus money. Shreve was the prize for St. Louis, who can't spend the bonus money effectively anyways. Their bullpen has been awful.

You're forgetting that Voits trackman readouts are nuts and now he'll be under the magic of Yankees dev. guys.
