Historically very few big trades are made this early. We can't just will a trading partner into both paying what we want AND doing it before everyone else enters the market.

I'm not saying the Jays should have traded Happ before this start, as I don't know what offers were out there. It's just general frustration that the team is not selling high on anyone important (over the years). Getting no value for JD will be bad. Happ was the one saving grace and he's struggling at the wrong time. The Jays really need to hit a home run in a trade with him. There's still time obviously but the Jays fan in me expecting the worst.

Absolute nightmare outing for Happ. Imploding at the worst possible time. 6 runs and 6 walks in less than 3 innings. f***

Nothing new to see here, Jays always hold onto players long enough for the value to completely evaporate. Brutal start from Happ today.

There are partners. But the selling team typically likes to wait until the deadline in order to create a frenzy and squeeze another piece out of a team. There's a chance they're squeezed one less piece from holding on. But let's wait another 3 weeks and see what Happ does.

Well, the buying teams often like to wait too, to see if a more premium guy becomes available (like Archer or deGrom).

Small sample size, he's back to being comfortably above average.

True, I still don't trust them though. Not at all, I realize it's the best we have, publicly. I'd love to see how far advanced MLB clubs are from current graphs.

See, Kenny Ken just said teams he's spoken to in on Machado have him as above average at SS with their analytics teams, far better than his DRS/UZR numbers, would be cool if we were ever privy to these results. Where's North when you need him, lol.:P

Just an fyi, as I find this topic interesting.

Same here. I'd love to get an insight on teams internal defensive metrics and how they vary from the known public ones
