John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted May 30, 2018 Posted May 30, 2018 He went 1 for 5. Bum. Yup. Bust. Swings for the fences too much
5ToolPhenom Verified Member Posted May 30, 2018 Posted May 30, 2018 I wouldn't be surprised if his spirits are being broken a little bit by being held down. He's gotta be thinking to himself "what more do I gotta do?"
FrozenRopes Verified Member Posted May 30, 2018 Posted May 30, 2018 If it isnt about service, like Wilner lies about, then you bring him up DFA Morales and he can play 1st, DH and some 3rd. This team isn't competing, let him and Bo play. Hint: it's about service.
HypeLikeJoseCruzJr. Verified Member Posted May 30, 2018 Posted May 30, 2018 Torn. a few games below .500, bring him up and pencil him 9th in the order (days off against Cy Young / HOF candidates). See what his numbers are like after 20 games, that's the hitting part. Where does he play? We know that he plays JD's position so this makes things awkward, and you don't DH a kid. So, DFA Morales and let JD and Smoak rotate between 1B/DH and put JD at 3rd when the kid needs a day off? But, it might actually hurt the team (whether he hits or not) because of the positional changes. With the bad vibes on the team as of right now (Osuna situation etc.) I think it makes a lot of sense to just wait and basically hand him 3B next year (in a rebuild year) and see if Bichette can fit in somewhere as well.
BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted May 30, 2018 Posted May 30, 2018 If they keep him down all season, will he have a chance at the minor league triple crown?
CBlake Verified Member Posted May 30, 2018 Posted May 30, 2018 If he gets called up to Buffalo I will for sure. I don't know why it's a big deal when they are going to be in the majors soon enough anyway, but I did the same when Harper was in AAA. I just love hitting up minor league ballparks in general and figured with the added bonus of Vladi and company, why not.

BTS Community Moderator Posted May 30, 2018 Posted May 30, 2018 We're getting close to the point where we shouldn't see him at all until mid-April 2019 unless he signs a long-term extension. The team is 5 games under 0.500, and if they slip much further back, he'll have to settle for a promotion to AAA where he'll finish the year.
BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted May 30, 2018 Posted May 30, 2018 I don't think he'd get the HR's. 2 homers in April and 9 homers in May. It’s very possible for him to get 30-40+
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted May 30, 2018 Posted May 30, 2018 Vladdy's Steamer projections are now up to 116 wRC+ with 8.3% walk rate, 14.4% k rate in the majors. That's just incredible for a guy in AA. Vladdy is now up to a 120 wRC+ projection with a .297/.359/.473 slash line.
BTS Community Moderator Posted May 30, 2018 Posted May 30, 2018 Vladdy is now up to a 120 wRC+ projection with a .297/.359/.473 slash line. That's insane for a 19-year old in AA. To put things in perspective, he's actually projected to be as good as Juan Soto.

BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted May 30, 2018 Posted May 30, 2018 Sad but true, friendo. My, how things can change in just a couple of weeks. They realistically needed at least a year to retool the roster for the next era. The lineup will look a lot younger next year. It shouldn’t be a long rebuild like Astros but more similar to the Red Sox. 2020 and beyond will be exciting baseball.

John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted May 30, 2018 Posted May 30, 2018 Unless he's a 28 year old. That's my point. If he's 28, that says far more about the player than the org.

Well, that’s the direction the Blue Jays are heading. He has a wOBA of .506 and wRC+ 222 in 47 games. There’s still two games left in may, Vladdy has 53 RBIs, 30 XBH and 26 multi-hit games and we’re still keeping him in AA. He has more RBIs than games played. He has more RBIs than MLB league leading JD Martinez with 5 fewer games played. And that’s with a struggling Bichette hitting in front of him the entire month of May. Seriously wtf lol, at least put the guy in Buffalo before he falls asleep at the plate. Edited May 30, 2018 by BlueRocky

If a .746 OPS over a month long period as a 20 year old in AA is struggling, I wish we had more struggling prospects.

John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2018 Posted June 1, 2018 Atkins on Vladito.... (good audio) https://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/atkins-best-place-vlad-jr-right-now-double/ He ain't coming here anytime soon. Important parts below: “You can make the case to put him in the major leagues right and he will likely will make your team better,” Atkins said. “There’s also a case to be made for what’s absolutely best for him to be a 20-year All-Star and a Hall of Famer and to be the best possible player he can be.” He also explains that with Josh Donaldson playing third base, the Blue Jays would rather see Guerrero continue to develop in double-A rather than calling him up to potentially DH or play another position. At this point there has been no set timetable for Guerrero Jr.’s promotion, but Atkins knows that the teenager cannot stay at double-A in the long run. “The biggest factor is him realizing his potential and the best place to do that right now is in New Hampshire but that won’t be forever and it won’t be for long, he’s dominating at a rate that suggests that he needs to be considered for triple-A.”
ColdPint Verified Member Posted June 1, 2018 Posted June 1, 2018 So, 2019 it is. That frees up time to do things other than watch this horrible Jays product on the field this year.

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2018 Posted June 1, 2018 It’s the right move. This season was never going to be more than a fringe wildcard contention. Not worth burning a year of Vlad’s prime.

Not worth burning a year of Vlad’s prime. Yeah, now that the season is completely in the toilet, there's no defense for calling him up at any point this year.
