I swear the Jays are cursed on my birthday, or I am. On the 26th last year the game got postponed, and tomorrow will be the 2nd time in 3 years that they’ve had to face Sale on my birthday. FML

That Aaron Judge guy looks good too. 8.2 WAR last year and this year he's increased his BB%, lowered his K% (over 5%) and his pumping a 205 wRC+

 

JD's best season was 8.7 WAR. Even if he's completely healthy for a full season, I don't know if he touches 8 WAR in a season ever again. Judge is 26 (today - happy birthday young man) and has made massive improvements/adjustments to his game over the past 2-3 years. The best might be yet to come.

 

I also think Correa may flirt with an 8 WAR season this year. Again, I don't think JD would get there (due to his declining defense) even if healthy.

Yeah I didn't include Judge in the conversation for 2nd best simply because he's only in his 2nd full year. But in total WAR since his debut, he's actually ranked 1st.

 

There's lot of other potential 7 / 8 WAR players this year - Altuve, Ohtani(?), Betts, Machado (at SS), Jose Ramirez, et al. So many exciting players in MLB right now!

I'd say Harper, Betts, Judge, Stanton, Altuve, Correa are all up there and I think all have passed JD at this point. You can't look at the WAR leaderboard for the past few years and say it's a definitive measure of who's the best going forward.
