Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted April 19, 2018 Posted April 19, 2018 I picked Pillar, in the assumption that we're talking right now, and not counting future value. I would also have picked Alford if it was the full 40 man.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted April 19, 2018 Author Posted April 19, 2018 I think you could make the case for any of them other than Pearce who is also a good player. Pillar seems like the correct choice at first but he only had 1.9 WAR last season. Wasn't much better the year before that. Tough call IMO.

TBF all the others put together only totalled 2.5 WAR in 2017.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 19, 2018 Posted April 19, 2018 25-man roster only. So right now? It's Pillar not even close.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted April 19, 2018 Posted April 19, 2018 Toss up between Pillar and Grichuk if talking talent level.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted April 19, 2018 Author Posted April 19, 2018 So right now? It's Pillar not even close. Granderson has out WAR'd Pillar in every single year since Pillar's debut in 2013 and Steamer projects that he'll do it on a per game basis again this year.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted April 19, 2018 Author Posted April 19, 2018 TBF all the others put together only totalled 2.5 WAR in 2017. According to what? Fangraphs has Grandy with a 2.1 WAR last year. Grichuk had 1.4. Teoscar had a half win in 27 games. Pearce struggled with .1 due to his poor defense.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted April 19, 2018 Posted April 19, 2018 So right now? It's Pillar not even close. Granderson has posted a higher WAR than Pillar every single season he's been in the bigs (even when Pillar was good in 2015). He's old and declining, but Pillar's also declining in the 1 area he provides value. Edit - ah f*** Term, you beat me to it. You get the thanks.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted April 19, 2018 Posted April 19, 2018 If we are talking highest floor.... Pillar Highest present value.....Pillar due to that floor Highest ceiling.... I could probably be swayed for arguments for either Grichuk or Hernandez

But they don't add up to 2.5. Grandy and Grichuk alone add up to 3.5. Grandy himself out WAR'd Pillar.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted April 19, 2018 Posted April 19, 2018 I went with Pillar for now. Pretty tough call actually.
SpeedyGose Verified Member Posted April 19, 2018 Posted April 19, 2018 I'm a little surprised at the lack of love for Grandy in this thread. He is easily the best OF currently IMO. His worst season batting season of his career is better than Pillar's best not to mention Pillar's defense is dropping off as he's aging.

I think any of Pillar, Teoscar or Granderson would be good choices. If someone wanted to make the argument for Grichuk I think they could and I expect when Boxy logs in that Pearce will finally get a vote.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted April 19, 2018 Posted April 19, 2018 I went with Pearce because I'm a fan of telling the truth E: Lmfao I totally didn't see that post before I voted
AledmysDiaz Verified Member Posted April 19, 2018 Posted April 19, 2018 Neither Granderson or Pearce are outfielders anymore. You may put them there because you want the bat in the lineup, but these are virtual DHs
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 19, 2018 Posted April 19, 2018 (edited) Granderson has out WAR'd Pillar in every single year since Pillar's debut in 2013 and Steamer projects that he'll do it on a per game basis again this year. I thought this was about right now? Pillar's a better player now over a platoon player, imo. Grandy's a great piece, don't get me wrong, if you want to add the full platoon, than it would be LF. Also, on reflection this is closer than I assumed. Edited April 19, 2018 by Spanky99

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted April 19, 2018 Posted April 19, 2018 What's wrong with Grandy's D? He dropped a ball on opening day Spank. Therefore casuals think he sucks.
JaysAllMighty Old-Timey Member Posted April 19, 2018 Posted April 19, 2018 Pillar makes unbelievable plays, he is a spectacular CF, covering extra ground left and right.

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted April 19, 2018 Posted April 19, 2018 Grandy for me. By August everyone will agree to this.
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted April 19, 2018 Posted April 19, 2018 Grandy for me. By August everyone will agree to this. I may not be able to add up, but you’re the dumb one in this thread!
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted April 19, 2018 Posted April 19, 2018 I may not be able to add up, but you’re the dumb one in this thread! Grandy has a higher WAR than Pillar every year of Pillar's career. What makes you think this year will be any different?

As usual it’s not necessarily your opinion that is dumb, it’s your arrogance. I guarantee that not “everyone will agree” with you.
