AdamGreenwood Old-Timey Member Posted April 17, 2018 Posted April 17, 2018 Gonna be looking good. Still have a few holes to fill, but if we can get all these guys out: C) Andy Yerzy 1B) Josh Naylor 2B) Freddie Freeman 3B) Vladimir Guerrero SS) Abraham Toro OF Tyler O'Neill EH Joey Votto SP1) James Paxton SP2) Jameson Taillon SP3) Nick Pivetta SP4) Mike Soroka SP5) Cal Quantrill I know Freeman doesn't usually play second, but let's get his bat in there anyways. Still need a couple outfielders, and some RP, but some really good Canadian players coming up.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted April 17, 2018 Posted April 17, 2018 I would expect Russell Martin to still be playing at that point, with Yerzy unlikely to have any major league experience.
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted April 17, 2018 Posted April 17, 2018 Maybe there will be a Pompey or two for the OF
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted April 17, 2018 Posted April 17, 2018 3B) Vladimir Guerrero? lol He's dominican, bro
AdamGreenwood Old-Timey Member Posted April 17, 2018 Author Posted April 17, 2018 3B) Vladimir Guerrero? lol He's dominican, bro Yeah, but he's born in Canada, so he can play for us if he wants.
AdamGreenwood Old-Timey Member Posted April 17, 2018 Author Posted April 17, 2018 Yerzy is a catcher anyways, not a shortstop like Russel Martin.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted April 17, 2018 Posted April 17, 2018 Yeah, but he's born in Canada, so he can play for us if he wants. I would think he would choose Dominican for a chance to win the tournament. Hopefully the roster looks pretty good in a few years. Canada has to qualify again after failing to win a game last time.

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted April 17, 2018 Posted April 17, 2018 Canada could field a good team in baseball and especially basketball but the problem is they can't get a very good turnout among its athletes. Too many liberals who shy away from patriotism up there.

Too many liberals who shy away from patriotism up there. Canada Basketball’s participation woes are over. The next generation has been very good internationally at the grass roots level. That’s about to change in a big way at the men’s level with lots of lottery and first round picks on the way. The NCAA class next year is star stacked led by RJ Barrett who is far in away the best player in his age group. And dominated the US High School ranks. Also helps that his Dad is very involved in Canada Basketball. Lets hope Baseball can catch up to our big gains in Basketball.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted April 17, 2018 Posted April 17, 2018 That's good. They could have medaled the past couple Olympics if they could get turnout.

Oh they absolutely should have been in the last Olympics. They had an easy path and got upset by Mexico I believe it was. That game Triano actually benched Wiggins. They had another opportunity in Manilla but the conditions were not very good and some key players were without a contract and couldn't play. Canada has had some issues with close out games despite dominating the tournaments. They are well on there way to clinching a spot in the FIBA Americas. And once they get into that tourney with their talent base should easily qualify for the Olympics. Some really strange circumstances has screwed Canada recently
