Hey guys, big Jays fan here but I have a question that will probably make me look like a casual fan.

I was wondering what ever happened to Brett Lawrie? I know he put up very ordinary numbers with Chicago in 2016, but is he really completely out of the game now? I would have imagined that some organization out there could have at least used him as a bench piece or at the worst gave him a shot in AAA.

I was wondering if anyone knows what his plans are now. I reckon he made a nice chunk of change with his MLB time, but he doesn't seem like the kind of person to be good very good with money.

Apparently he has some kind of injury or something, but isn't having any luck in getting it resolved.

It's a broken ego, likely a career ending injury for him. Some can come back from it, but Lawrie is unlikely to be one of those.

Really? Damn. And he still hasn't had it figured out? That sounds odd. So has he outright retired or is he going to try and work his way back in the league? I guess at 28 years old the clock is ticking out of favor for him.

He just hangs out on the beach, smokes weed and picks up hot chicks.

Pretty sure he and the wife/girlfriend just had/are having a baby...

Yea he’s married lol. And everytime I see a video of him he’s working out.

He was promoting ketchup chips that last time I saw him. Best thing he's done in years.

You didn't enjoy his Ichiro-like approach at the plate? Where as a right handed batter he'd slam the ball into the ground and hustle down the line trying to beat it out?

He made $8M in his career and you are underestimating how quickly a stupid person can blow through that kind of nest egg.

Oh, plus whatever he made on endorsing earmuffs.

Yeah to retire in your 20s I think 8 mil is probably good but you aren't balling or anything. He also had his revenue stream cut unexpectedly so I doubt he had a full 8 mil saved up. He can probably semi-retire but he'll need to work some.

Does the 8 million include his 1.7 mil signing bonus?

Plus who knows how much money he's spending on medical staff in order to find out what's "wrong" with his body that the White Sox training staff supposedly f***ed up. This guy goes through doctors as fast as Trump goes through politicians.

This guy's wife has to slap some sense into him and make him psychologically accept his situation before he burns through all his cash.

I used to live next door to Ray Searage and at the time he was pitching for the Vancouver Canadians and hoping to get enough innings in in the Majors to get the MLB pension (now he is pitching coach guru that turned Happ and others around). Not sure if Lawrie played enough but it is a pretty good pension that is probably higher than the salaries of most posters on this board - so there is that to consider. What Lawrie needed was some kind of ADHD control therapist.

It used to be 43 days to earn an MLB pension. After 10 years of MLB service time the pension increases substantially.

There seems to be a real lack of information online surrounding the injury that Lawrie is suffering from.

Is everyone sure that he's not simply trying to rationalize why he's been outta the league? Maybe he's in denial and just making some excuses to try and justify why he's unemployed.

Go listen to the audio link that's been posted a few times.
