Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted January 16, 2018 Posted January 16, 2018 So much for Grandy wanting to play for a contender to try and get a ring while wrapping up a very good career...Perhaps a true indication as to where the market is at. Kendrick's signing 2 yr $7M, Grandy 1 yr $5M. The old guys simply aren't going to get paid anymore.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted January 16, 2018 Posted January 16, 2018 wRC+ of 123 vs. RHP last year. .310/.376/.448 (better than Granderson the past 2 years FWIW). He just needs to correct that defense. I kind of thing we're done. Granderson and Zeke will platoon with Pearce and Teoscar. I mean ideally we'd get another starting OFer and let Grandy platoon with Teoscar (and Teoscar could spell all OF positions) - but we still have Zeke and Pearce and they don't seem to be going anywhere. We're treading water folks - praying for all the stars to align. I don't think management has succumbed to Teoscar being a platoon player just yet. He'll either be our starting right fielder to start the year or start the year in Buffalo.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted January 16, 2018 Posted January 16, 2018 Yea not exactly the impact Outfielder but at least maybe Zeke can f*** off now and Granderson can be flipped at the deadline.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted January 16, 2018 Posted January 16, 2018 We signed Zeke yesterday. Why are people suggesting hrs going to get cut? Do you think our FO is that stupid?
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted January 16, 2018 Posted January 16, 2018 Why the hell did they tender Zeke a contract? Such a waste of almost 2 million. And he's a AAA player at this point. Isn't there a rule if you release him by a certain time he doesn't get that arbitration salary. Like what the White Sox did with Brett Lawrie or did I make this up in my head.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted January 16, 2018 Posted January 16, 2018 We signed Zeke yesterday. Why are people suggesting hrs going to get cut? Do you think our FO is that stupid? Well he should have been non tendered and definitely should be cut now. Granderson/Pearce platoon in LF. Doesn't really have a spot outside of AAA depth which would have made sense on a minor league deal.
SAAviour Verified Member Posted January 16, 2018 Posted January 16, 2018 We can cut zeke and pay him 1/6th of his contract.
Todd Verified Member Posted January 16, 2018 Posted January 16, 2018 This is a bad signing by the blue jays. The idea is to get younger and faster. Not stay as one of the oldest teams in baseball. Exactly my point these guys have no idea on what they are doing.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted January 16, 2018 Posted January 16, 2018 I seem to recall Granderson discussed in another thread. I'm surprised he would want to play on turf this last in his career but he's probably been sitting on this offer for a while hoping for something better. Good on the Jays for playing the market well.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted January 16, 2018 Posted January 16, 2018 This signing doesn't solve the need for another OF that's for sure. You can't go into the year with Zeke/Pearce/Hernandez starting in a corner OF and expect to contend.

Looks like they'll go with the five outfielders (Granderson/Pearce platoon in LF, Pillar and Teoscar) with Zeke on the bench. His defence is suspect, but you can't deny his 123 wRC+ vs RHP. Nice bat to have on the bench that doesn't seem to go stale from limited playing time.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted January 16, 2018 Posted January 16, 2018 Who is another cheap OF that won't cost much in years or dollars? CarGo? Gomez? I'd expect something like that and a Brett Anderson type to fill a rotation spot.

He had a wRC+ of 72 in 2016 while walking more and striking out less. A .391 BABIP in 2017 is completely unsustainable. He sucks.

CarGo maybe, JB, Ethier (unlikely now as you don't really want two platoon guys), Saunders on a minors contract.

He sucks. Yeah i hear you. What bothers me is that Shapiro may feel compelled to start the year with him on the 25 man, since he decided to settle on a MLB $1.9 million contract. Shapiro seems a bit too proud, which scares the s*** out of me when it comes to Morales.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted January 16, 2018 Posted January 16, 2018 Nothing wrong with this signing Yay

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted January 16, 2018 Posted January 16, 2018 1 Year deal worth $5 million for a OFer who had 2.1 fWAR last season. That's a steal...
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted January 16, 2018 Posted January 16, 2018 I know how I feel about this deal, but what I want to know is how Marcus Stroman feels about this deal. What are Granderson's favourite video games and types of music?

Fiddlehead Verified Member Posted January 16, 2018 Posted January 16, 2018 Is the OF set.....sure as hell hope not.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted January 16, 2018 Posted January 16, 2018 Is the OF set.....sure as hell hope not. Davidi is saying the Jays are still after another OF. It's starting to look like Hernandez and Diaz will both start in AAA, while the outfield is Granderson-Pillar-FA with Pearce/Zeke/Solarte/catcher on the bench. My guess is they end up with Gomez, but that's based on nothing.

Arjun Nimmala Vancouver Canadians - A+ SS It's been slow going at the start of the season for Nimmala, but on Sunday, he was 3-for-5 with his 3rd home run and 3 RBI. Explore Arjun Nimmala News >
