Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted December 30, 2018 Posted December 30, 2018 on en.canoe.ca Steve Simmons really slams the Atkins/Shapiro duo in the FO. Wants them gone. I have always liked Simmons' writing. What are your general thoughts on him? I tend to think this board is generally pro-Shapiro/Atkins. You must have incredibly low standards.
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted December 30, 2018 Posted December 30, 2018 Steve Simmons is the worst sports journalist in Toronto. Not True , Marty York owns that title or did he move? Die ? Find a Clue ? A brain ? Sure he would meet to Fight anywhere in Toronto To Retain his title if challenged! maybe he can join the BJMB podcast team For a Show ! sweeps week lol
SaskJaysFan_2 Verified Member Posted December 30, 2018 Posted December 30, 2018 You must have incredibly low standards. I'm a CFL fan and he writes solid CFL articles. If you listen to his talk on the Blue Jays, aside from the anti-Shapiro lean, it's a solid article.

Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted December 30, 2018 Posted December 30, 2018 Does Steve Simmons have a HOF vote? I hope so. And I hope he votes only for relievers or some stupid s*** in a lame personal protest or vendetta. Would love to see the board meltdown in a jealous rage over someone who has attained a level of success in life that these guys will never, ever achieve.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted December 30, 2018 Posted December 30, 2018 Considering that Stroman’s value seems to be so low, and he’s only 27, I’d like to see us try to sign him to an extension. He also doesn’t like going through arbitration so he might consider it worthwhile buying out 2 years plus the longer term security. Not a fan of this idea. Small frame AND big mouth. Plus I don't think he would sign at a "hometown discount" or whatever it is called when a team deals with his ******** in stride.

Fan interest and perception will be a lot better for an 81-win team in 2019 than for a 60-win team.

Off the back of 2 losing seasons I don’t think there would be a significant difference for this year. We’ve already had a big drop in attendance. Especially when between 60 and 81 wins is likely only the difference between 4th and 3rd in the AL East.

Even back when the jays had some 87-89 win seasons they did not crack 2.3 million in attendance. So to say if you win they will come i don't think its true with this team. You have to be in contention for them to come. I know people that were hardcore jays fans for 2 years and then the last couple they could give a s***.... That is the market.

It's a shame. they are always fairly strong though. I would like to say that they would have an effect on jays ticket sales but they don't. The jays fans will show up if they are in contention and that is the only time. Even in 2015 they only averaged 34,000 and how much did August and September have influenced those numbers compared to the 3 years prior it was around 30,000 so fans will only show up if the jays are near contention other than that they don't give a s*** lol.

It's already been proven that fans will come out to support a winner...not mediocrity. Build a winner. Don't rush and do it half assed. A proper build of a championship calibre team is the only way. Besides...LOL at this team being anywhere near an 81 win team.
