I wonder how the board would react if that deal actually happened. Would there be outrage or praise for Atkins.

Commentary team: Buck Martinez and Pat Tabler

 

Martinez once interrupted his post-playing broadcasting career with a stint in the Jays dugout: it didn’t go well. Analyst Tabler won a World Series in Toronto as a player in 1992. Martinez is a rare breed: an ex-player who became a game caller. In a game against the White Sox he turns on the enthusiasm for back-to-back Chicago home runs, which is also rare amongst home team broadcasters. He’s a polarizing figure in the north, some find him endearing, others dislike his voice, which is not your standard TV type. Tabler is low energy and soft on the analysis, repeating that the White Sox have hit a pair of homers with little other description.

very disappointed to hear that the payroll will be in the 120 to one thirty million $ range. That leaves roughly $30 million to spend. It also sends the message that we really aren’t going to try to win next year. With that in mind I cannot see the value in giving $15 million or so to happ. We need to be making all moves toward 2020.

120-130m payroll doesn’t get us to sniff the playoffs unless we can trick someone into taking tulo or Martin and most of their salary which ain’t gonna happen.

 

Low payroll means sprinkling in young guys on their first contracts. Signing Happ=cashing him in at the trade deadline for prospects.

Sign me up.

Tabby's not so soft when discussing how beeg and strong a player is

 

I literally think they could replace him with a rock and we'd see a net improvement. Plus, rocks are free

If they sign Happ they won't trade him at the deadline again. Not unless it's a 1year contract.

Have not been a fan of Shapiro. However, I will give him credit for taking the Young Guns down to Ft. Benning to go through some pseudo type of Ranger school.

 

Ranger school is the best leadership program the US Army has, apart from being in Delta, but they probably can't go there. Apparently our guys will be working on leadership, working as a team and hopefully embracing the suck to learn a little about persevering in difficult situations and not quieting. I would prefer to send them to BUD/s, but Vlad would probably drown, so better to keep them on firm ground. ;)

Looks like we hired Carson Cistulli away from Fangraphs. Supposedly into a "newly created" role in the Pro Scouting department.

 

Interesting, neat.

Cistulli was one of the few fangraphs writers left that was actually good.

 

His fringe five posts were a must in dynasty leagues.

If Pillar is traded (as he probably should be) the fan base are going to be pissed.

 

Not the intelligent fan base. It is not like they are going to get record attendance this year anyway. In for a penny in for a pound.
