Toronto Blue Jays Farm System Overview For 2019

Notable Graduations: SS/2B Lourdes Gurriel Jr. (5), SS Richard Urena (9) and LHP Ryan Borucki (10).

Trending: A parade of prospects lines up behind Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette, making the future bright in Toronto.

Strengths: Having the best prospect in baseball is always a great place to start for a farm system, but even beyond Vladimir Guerrero Jr., the Blue Jays have depth and potential impact all around the infield. Several hitters got significantly better in 2018, which has improved the system’s overall depth. After graduating lefty Ryan Borucki last season, the Blue Jays could get impact before long from talented arms like Sean Reid-Foley and Nate Pearson.

Weaknesses: A few of the Blue Jays’ infield prospects may need to move to the outfield eventually because the system is significantly thinner among promising outfielders. Cavan Biggio and Kevin Smith both had breakout seasons, but they still need to prove their newfound success is a sign of a new level of skill and not just a pair of career years.

Stroman, Sanchez, and Pillar signed as free agents, of course

I enjoy monitoring the independent leagues and would love to see the Jays sign David Rollins to a MiLB deal. He led his league in strikeouts averaging almost 1 an inning he pitched as a starter. Might be an interesting bullpen depth option if he gave up the weeds.

Scott Boras is just trying to create pressure on teams to spend... hopefully on his clients or atleast create a perception of a bidding war. That's fine its his job, but not sure why anyone should care what a clearly bias person says.

Yeah, it's not like the Jays aren't spending, they're just not spending on his guys.

Cleveland need outfielders - maybe we can sell them Pillar & Pompey.

Probably Kendrys Morales + 9 million for Ryan Goins

very disappointed to hear that the payroll will be in the 120 to one thirty million $ range. That leaves roughly $30 million to spend. It also sends the message that we really aren’t going to try to win next year. With that in mind I cannot see the value in giving $15 million or so to happ. We need to be making all moves toward 2020.

120-130m payroll doesn’t get us to sniff the playoffs unless we can trick someone into taking tulo or Martin and most of their salary which ain’t gonna happen.

What are you disappointed about exactly? This club has too many holes to be competitive this year or next. Attendance was down like 30% last year. There's no point to over spending this year on free agents. I'd wait to see how the prospects start panning out and then see where the holes are before just adding over priced players right now.

I think with some creativity, we could compete with last years starting payroll of 160m without blocking too prospects.

I wonder how the board would react if that deal actually happened. Would there be outrage or praise for Atkins.

I’d be legit pissed unless Bryant came with a reasonable 7-8 year extension

Vlad for Bryant? Basically seven years of control (minus a few weeks) with two of those years being dirt cheap versus three really expensive years of Bryant who is six years older?

Outrage. Lots of it.
