The depth additions are huge. A lot of expected gain with even modest projections. Potential for a lot more as well.

Backup C (and starting C when Martin went down), #5 SP, RF, 2B, and SS. It's amazing we got as many wins as we did when all those positions were so terrible.

As you read through the article position by position you constantly hear the "player blank will no doubt be on upgrade on the combination of *past players* who put up below replacement level production last season." Amazing we even won 70+ games.
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2018 Posted April 3, 2018 You think we Ran Bautista out for 150+ games at a negative War and struck out 1/4 of the time. I think Grichuk is going to be a 2 WAR player but he is going to be a huge upgrade even if he provides any value.
Maico450 Verified Member Posted April 3, 2018 Posted April 3, 2018 There are so many areas of improvement. Obviously biggest concern is JD at 3B. However he was hurt last April also, and ended up having a huge 2nd half. Biggest opportunity for improvement I see, is in SP. A healthy Sanchez and Garcia, will make a huge improvement in the rotation.
Shart Verified Member Posted April 3, 2018 Posted April 3, 2018 JD is supposed to play 3B tonight. Scott Mitchell from TSN said he was watching JD make throws after last game and he was still skipping some throws to first. His observations and Gibby's positive comments did not align. Something smells fishy and it's not that old sock that's never been washed in Gibby's office.

Shart Verified Member Posted April 3, 2018 Posted April 3, 2018 "Guy on Twitter" vs/ "Guy who is a Professional Baseball Manager". Scott Mitchell. He covers the Jays for TSN. He's the one who was making the observations on Twitter.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2018 Posted April 3, 2018 Scott Mitchell. He covers the Jays for TSN. He's the one who was making the observations on Twitter. Okay, and... he has far less access to information than the manager of the team has. Also, if you'll recall, Gibby said JD would PROBABLY start at 3rd. I mean, there's not really much to gain by having JD start at third v/ as the DH, Solarte is been doing a fine job there, so rushing him would make no sense at all.

Skipping balls to first is skipping balls to first. It doesn't take a MLB GM to make that observation. I feel that the Jays are trying to put spin on this situation by making in seem like less of a concern than it really is.

So why is he the only one reporting it then because you would thank like yesterday there were some sportsnet reports reporting on him throwing....... This guy as never been known for his breaking information into the jays so i would take his word with a grain of salt. Only people worth listening to about Jays info would be Ben Nicholson Smith, Shi Davidi, and Zwelling is pretty good as well. Anyone else likely not.

A hard thrown ball from a healthy arm can still be skipped. Also, this was after Sunday's game, not yesterday.

Scott Mitchell from TSN is legit and reports Jays news all the time...not my problem if you've never heard of him.

So... you think that Rogers corporate is so involved in day-to-day stuff that they're like "you have to bury that report on Donaldson's throwing arm! It will SERIOUSLY mess with our bottom line!"

He even posted a video. Despite the fact this looks like it's being filmed on a flip phone you can still tell its a big improvement since Opening Day. I dont think Gibby is out to lunch here as you suggest

Do you not find it odd that only TSN reported on it, and not Sportsnet? And I'm just going by what you said here, as I have no confirmation that Sportsnet did not report in this.

The whole Rogers empire has been working relentlessly to cover up..... Makes perfect sense.
