bones10 Old-Timey Member Posted September 29, 2018 Posted September 29, 2018 There's probably enough tie-breaker rules in place where this won't be necessary I imagine. I could be wrong though. there isnt, if two teams are tied for a playoff spot they duke it out head to head
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted September 29, 2018 Posted September 29, 2018 There's gonna be sample size and confirmation bias there, but it should be recognized that after Kyle Schwarber's offseason where he got into much better shape, he's rated as both a positive defender and runner this year, while not losing anything out of his offense. Good for him, his hard work really paid off.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted September 29, 2018 Posted September 29, 2018 Eventually some MLB team is going to insist that everyone on the roster is a plus athlete, they will add 20 WAR and win a WS. Then everyone will be like wait, why didn't we do that and then you will actually have to be an athlete to play baseball. I don't get how baseball players are still allowed to be out of shape. Pat Riley could probably walk into a front office and make the team better without knowing a single thing about the sport just because he will make everyone get in shape and add a f*** ton of value to the team. This is why I'm so triggered with how fat Vlad Jr. is. Over the course of his time here he'll probably leave a ton of WAR on the table. If a team is gonna insist everyone is a plus athlete (and a good hitter), they're probably gonna have a 300+ million payroll. If a lot of teams do that, the other ones are going to clean up on cheap players who provide more surplus value than the good athletes do.
Brenner Verified Member Posted September 30, 2018 Posted September 30, 2018 Wow we did JD a huge favour trading him. He's been good for Cleveland and with a good playoffs could actually get a decent multi-year contract. Was not going to happen here.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 30, 2018 Posted September 30, 2018 Almost back to a tie in the NL West Dodgers beat SF. Machado winning hit triple in the 8th. Rockies losing 6-1
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 30, 2018 Posted September 30, 2018 Meanwhile, Orioles on the verge of losses 114 and 115 on the same day

BTS Community Moderator Posted September 30, 2018 Posted September 30, 2018 Hands up everyone who was aware that Ryan Pressly has struck out 101 guys this year.
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2018 Posted September 30, 2018 Yes A team having to win a play-in game and then a wildcard game just to make it to a division series is pretty exciting Both the Dodgers and Rockies are up early, looks like at least one play-in game will be needed (the Cubs are currently losing so one might not be needed in the NL Central).
bones10 Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2018 Posted September 30, 2018 All but certain at this point, 2 playoff games tomorrow
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2018 Posted September 30, 2018 Pretty neat how this has unfolded. Tie Breakers If Chicago and Milwaukee end up with the same record, they will play a one-game tiebreaker on Monday -- hosted by Chicago -- that will determine the division champion as well as which team will have home-field advantage throughout the NL playoffs. The loser of that tiebreaker game would host the NL Wild Card Game on Tuesday. If the Dodgers and Rockies wind up tied atop the division after their games Sunday, Los Angeles will host a tiebreaker Monday at Dodger Stadium. The winner of that game will play the Braves in the NLDS, while the loser will be the road team in the NL Wild Card Game.

But still awesome.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2018 Posted October 1, 2018 Scioscia finally confirmed to be gone. Another dinosaur put out to pasture. And the O's finish with the 15th worst win % since 1900. Only other modern team worse was the 2003 Tigers,

baubau Verified Member Posted October 1, 2018 Posted October 1, 2018 So Yelich is NL MVP and also potentially, maybe, secretly trending towards the HOF. Stupid Brewers singing Cain and then trading for Yelich. Took both away from us.

Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2018 Posted October 1, 2018 Does anyone know if today's teams are on 25-man or expanded rosters format? I imagine it's the former but would like some confirmation since this technically isn't a playoff game.

I imagine it's the former but would like some confirmation since this technically isn't a playoff game. That is a great question! According to this MLB.com article: "It should be noted that today's game will be played with a 40-man roster, while the NL Wild Card Game has a 25-man roster that can leave off pitchers used in Game 163." While searching for the answer I saw that Blackmon hit for the cycle yesterday, pretty cool.
BTS Community Moderator Posted October 1, 2018 Posted October 1, 2018 So stats from today's game are added to the players' regular season stats?
Laika Community Moderator Posted October 1, 2018 Posted October 1, 2018 So stats from today's game are added to the players' regular season stats? Yes. Yelich can still win the triple crown.

HealthDream007 Verified Member Posted October 1, 2018 Posted October 1, 2018 Cain with a RBI single up the middle. 2-1 MIL top of the 8th
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2018 Posted October 1, 2018 Well that probably signals Hader for two innings. The Cubs are f***ed, especially with Yelich coming up.
havok24 Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2018 Posted October 1, 2018 And Braun delivers with the RBI single. Hader is going to carve up the Cubs.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2018 Posted October 1, 2018 Horrible pitch, Contreras wanted that inside as a ball and he leaves it right down the middle.
